This is a tribute to the wonderful couple, Paul and Linda McCartney. It is said that Paul and Linda didn’t put aside their togetherness, as they never spent a separate night. I wonder with things of work, being on the road and whatever life throws our way if we could have the same record of togetherness. Seemingly, these two were out to break the mold for rock and rollers everywhere; Linda of course died recently of breast cancer.
Sure there are people in this world that don’t think much of, “Love Songs” as being rock and roll however, rock and roll does take on a lot of rolls, metal, punk, rap, with it’s roots in jazz and swing yes even swing. What are love songs? I would think they are not too much unlike, “The Psalms” based in love and learning. The entire Bible teaches us that “LOVE” is the key to our hearts. I am inspired to write this perhaps because I am a romantic or perhaps the message is clear just maybe we could sing, “ The Love Song” to our families.
I cannot imagine what it must be like to loose your wife your best friend, and mother all in the same breath. Breast cancer afflicts many women around the world; as a husband, I would not know how to handle it if my wife was not around to sing, Love Songs to me. So ladies if you please, see your doctor have a check up, breast cancer is a killer.
COMING UP
You want a love to last forever
One that will never fade away
I want to help you with your problem
Stick around, I say
(chorus)
Coming up, coming up, yeah
Coming up, like a flower
Coming up, I say
You want a friend you can rely on
One who will never fade away
And if you’re searching for an answer
Stick around, I say
(Chorus)
You want some peace and understanding
So everybody can be free
I know that we can get together
We can make it, stick with me
(Chorus 2x)
You want a better kind of future
One that everyone can share
You’re not alone; we all could use it
Stick around, we’re nearly there
(Chorus 2x)
P. McCartney; 1980
The McCartney’s wrote and sang with people like S. Wonder, “Ebony and Ivory,” and M. Jackson, “Say, Say, Say,” just to name a couple. Was their love to the “nth degree?” I think so, you’d think that people would have had enough of “Silly Love Songs,” but I look around me and see it isn’t so, some people wanna fill the world with “Silly Love Songs,” what’s wrong with that? I’d like to know, cause here I go again!
No doubt, many tough times for the McCartneys but they always seem to find piece within. We all will grieve for sometime at Linda’s passing they were a strong team that put love and family first.
Uncle Albert, the Ram Album to this day sticks in my mind; I don’t know why but something in it tells a story, “but we haven’t done a bloody thing all day!” We’re so sorry Uncle Albert.
Love is, someone you can count on
Love is, someone your think’n on
Love is, the thing you do, when you do it
You become a kid all over again!
Love is, someone to hold and
Love is, some flowers like a rose
Love is, you jump up and down your
World spins around with her!
Love is, someone you hold when things go wrong
Love is, a smile from her when you’re older
Love is, someone close to you when all have gone
Away from you even when it’s bad she still sings
“The Love Songs,” to you!
I wrote this piece several years ago and since I have written the above my wife had passed due to leukemia, and now I too know what it’s like to loose your very best friend. I have stopped doing things like going to concerts, dances, long walks, I dine alone just to name a few my world is topsy-turvy nothing seems to make sense my wife passed two years ago and I have been looking for myself since. And so, to Paul I wish you all the best and hope you can find a peace in the all of it; thank you and Linda for the many years of recording because you two are my “Unsung hero’s”
