<b>N</b>ight mocks me. I know it wel<b>l</b>;
<b>S</b>ome thought, a worry or a hop<b>e</b>,
<b>O</b>vertakes that moment between sleep and awak<b>e</b>.
<b>M</b>y mind, at once alert, closes the remaining ga<b>p</b>
<b>N</b>ow exposed to its probing of al<b>l</b>
<b>I</b>t remembers and all it longs to se<b>e</b>.
<b>A</b>s it contemplates said thought, dream<b>s</b>
<b>S</b>lowly fade, and reality'<b>s</b>
<b>U</b>nfettered madness settles i<b>n</b>.
<b>C</b>losing my eyes only prolongs the inevitabl<b>e</b>
<b>K</b>icking off of the bedsheet<b>s</b>,
<b>S</b>ilently admitting my defeat by endless musing<b>s</b>.
<b>B</b>owing my head, I lift my prayer<b>s</b>,
<b>U</b>ltimately dependent on saving grac<b>e</b>
<b>T</b>o deliver me, and a promis<b>e</b>:
<b>G</b>od knows the end from the beginning. N<b>o</b>
<b>O</b>ppressive uncertainty or speculatio<b>n</b>
<b>D</b>isproves His sovereign governanc<b>e</b>.
<b>G</b>reat philosophers, carried away by reasoning'<b>s</b>
<b>I</b>nsatiable search for meaning, worshi<b>p</b>
<b>V</b>ainly their own imaginations at th<b>e</b>
<b>E</b>xpense of sufficient rest. Yet every ide<b>a</b>,
<b>S</b>mall or great, God perceived in eternity past. Myopi<b>c</b>
<b>H</b>istory we compose, whil<b>e</b>
<b>I</b>n mercy He reveals to every er<b>a</b>
<b>S</b>uggestions of knowledge beyond human comprehensio<b>n</b>.
<b>L</b>amenting our frailty, we ponder questions answere<b>d</b>
<b>O</b>ftentimes before we ask. Ou<b>r</b>
<b>V</b>ariable faith, weakened by sight, might see mor<b>e</b>
<b>E</b>ffortlessly in the darknes<b>s</b>,
<b>D</b>are we listen to His Word in the stillness of nigh<b>t</b>.
