I’m a retired grandfather of 18 (my house is often crowded). My wife, Karen, and I are widow and widower having 4 and 2 children, respectively, and have they been productive. Karen is a medical missionary and has traveled the world on short mission trips (sometimes dragging me along to do some of the grunt work). I’ve been an officer (deacon and elder) in our church for more than two decades, and a vocalist much longer than that. Over the past four years, I’ve been studying opera (tenor). I recently spent a month in Florence, Italy, studying voice (and Italian – I also study languages). But I’ve long enjoyed writing, especially creative writing, yet have found little time to pursue it. I have many years of experience in expository writing, and, upon request, have written a few seminary courses (courses.mints.edu/category/masters-level/m-biblical-studies/). What little time I’ve had for creative writing has shown me I’m better suited for short stories, and I’ve written several (unpublished). But I had no outlet for creative stuff. A missionary friend of Karen’s pointed me to FaithWriters. I find it a great outlet, especially the Challenge. Once given a topic, I can just let my mind wander for a few days and create…whatever (though I find the 750-word maximum a challenge in itself). The site’s also long on help, and I’m expecting to learn some things. God bless.
