Why did you bring me into this world if you weren’t going to love me
and take care of me?
What did I do to make you mad? What did I do to make you hit me so?
Where have you gone and why did you leave me? I am scared and hungry and I
don’t want to be left alone. When will you come back? Who will take care
of me? Who will keep me safe and tuck me in at night?
Why did you let him hurt me? Why won’t you believe me? Do you love him
more than me? Why can’t you see?
Won’t somebody come and help me? Won’t somebody give me a hug? Isn’t there anybody who wants me? Isn’t there anybody who will love me?
God gives us angels in the form of our children. It is our responsibility to take care of them, to love them, to protect them. We are failing to live up to that responsibility. Listen to the cries of our children. The cries of hunger, the cries of neglect, rape, incest.
Listen to the cries of those who have died from abuse, their lives cut short. Who is going to stand up and be a voice for them? Where are they going to go if they can not to turn to us as protectors? See them as they are hurting, as they are hungry and alone. See them as they are wounded and abuse and scared. See God as He weeps for the children, “Beware that you don’t despise a single one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my Father”. (Matt: 18:10)
