No river holds more sorrow than the tears
a child cries within the night of loss;
no grief can scar the remnant of its years,
no nail can hang more pain upon the cross
that must be borne throughout its time on earth.
The pieces, now destroyed, can never be
replaced by any other shape; no mirth
will soothe the silent gnaw of misery
that feeds upon the things that might have been.
And yet, an opportunity exists
to dam the flow of Sorrow River when
it overflows; a power to resist.
Our Father knows the agony of loss;
he will restore the things nailed to the cross.
