Just kidding about that 'I alone' stuff. What I really did was find some great things in the Bible that spells out exactly what we were created for. Jesus clearly states the exact meaning of Life in His high priestly prayer. In John 17:3, He says that eternal life is knowing God and Christ Jesus whom He has sent. Knowing God...that's it? In a nutshell, yeah that's it. But it does not end there. Knowing God represents a journey spanning eternity, your eternity. In short, it is everything we will experience. A good place to start in discovering the meaning in life is to acknowledge the fact that we are indeed eternal beings, designed to know God forever. Death is not the end but a stepping stone into Heaven... or Hell if you die without knowing God.
Have you ever stopped and paid attention to all the programs, hobbies and general spiritualism out there that claim to bring meaning to your life? If I listened to the World, then I would be enrolled in every Yoga and New Age class I could find. I would be at the Gym everyday making a better self. I would try to make the most money possible and in general just please every urge that comes into my brain. What is the problem with all this? It is all self centered. The world will tell you that getting in touch in yourself brings fulfillment and that value only comes how much crap you own. I am here to tell you the opposite. Getting in touch with God brings fulfillment and true value comes from submitting your life to God not exalting yourself.
Any attempts to bring purpose to your life all fall short in comparison to what could be had in a relationship with God. Getting married, having kids, getting that six figure income; it can benefit your existence, but it does not bring fulfillment. There will always be something more you want. There will always be another goal to achieve or promotion to acquire. You house is not big enough, your car is not fast enough, your bank account is not full enough. Life is full of the bigger and better. But in the end, If you do not know God, your entire lifes' achievement is for nothing. When you are on your death bed you will look back on your life and remember all the successes and wealth you have achieved. The thought will finally dawn on you that it was all temporary.
Since death brings a sudden stop to our endeavors on this earth, we are all limited in the time that we have. The day will come when we will have to say good-bye to this place and to all the things we have achieved. I wish it was different, but nothing can be done. Einstein, the complete genius could not think himself out of dying. King Solomon, the richest guy that ever lived, could not buy his way out of the ultimate appointment. Bill Gates is getting older by the day and no solution has been brought to the table to ward off theinevitable. It does not matter how much you have, or what you have done, or how famous you are; death steals everything you work so hard to attain. Now I am not saying you just give up and not try for anything. I am saying that you keep everything in the proper focus. Wealth, as good as it is, will fade. The spotlight that illuminated your fifteen minutes of fame will burn out. The years will pass and so will your meaning. The only thing that is permanent is your relationship with God. He is the only person that connects our existence now and our existence after death.
Years can slip by and distractions make us less effective, but remember the purpose for which we are here. It can be as simple as making the decision to wake up fifteen minutes earlier and spend that time with God. Make the active decision to pursue Him. It will not be long until you have discovered the very meaning of life.
