in hand, he held his sword
“Live or die?” he muttered
I listened to his words.
“I will not die,” I answered
“though you run me through and through
for I believe the Bible
and every word is true!”
“I’ll not denounce my Savior,
for He is the Prince of Peace,
and death has lost this battle,
for He now holds the keys!”
“I’d rather die the death of martyrs,
for I shall live again,
and though you may have killed the body,
alas, you did not win.”
With that I felt a stinging,
and saw angels gather ‘round,
I whispered “Lord, forgive him,”
as my body hit the ground.
The angels waited patiently,
my soul fought for it’s release,
and as my breathing quieted,
I entered into peace.
Then in that very instant,
I was gathered home,
and with those words I’ve longed to hear,
Jesus, said “well done!”
