Here is a picture of me in my “office.” Honestly, I do most of my work right from the comfort of my recliner. Oh, the perks of being a writer!

Like you, I enjoy writing from my recliner. I sometimes go back and forth between the recliner and the desk. If my sister is home (we share an apartment) and wants to do something in the living room, I take my laptop to the love seat in my bedroom.

EVERYWHERE; here, there….wherever….via the latest trusty hand-me-down laptop that’s already been through my two boys. (Paper drives me crazy – correction fluid can’t keep up with my instantaneous edits.) I often write sitting at a TV tray set up in my bedroom right next to a window facing the lake, but also at the living room couch (also facing the lake), the kitchen table (also facing the lake), out on the deck (also facing the lake)……lol.

It used to be, the only place was upstairs–at the computer desk. But now that I finally have a laptop (woohoo!), it can be anywhere I want. Mostly it’s the end of the kitchen table, though. I’m lazy by nature, so I need to sit up straight and pay attention. 🙂

Last year, my hubby bought me an office/hutch. I love it! It has all my tools (books, phone, pencils, etc.) right at my fingertips. It has my inspiration knick-knacks on its shelves and a calendar close by. At the end of the day, I can shut my laptop, and close the drawer, and it will be hidden away until I”m ready to write again.

My computer/desk is in my kitchen, so, I have the joy of writing while I bake. A small spiral notebook and pen are kept in my nightstand and in my purse so that when ‘inspiration’ comes, I can write the idea down before I lose it! LOL

I bet no one writes from this place. I converted a walk-in closet when the TV cabinet that holds my computer, printer and console was much too big for any other room. I use the shelves below as file cabinets. With the installation of an outlet and a phone jack, my office is complete. Of course, I’d take an easy chair any day if I had a laptop:-)

Have laptop, will travel. But most of my trips take me to my recliner, near the wood stove. at least in the winter months. In the summer I have to move the laptop to a different surface than my lap! But still, the recliner is my office of choice. Aaaah, a writers life!

If I am writing a first draft it is long hand and likely to be in notebooks in a recliner chair. If I am up to second draft or beyond it will be on the computer on my desk,in my study with my dog at my feet.

Carmen, when I read your comment that you write best in a glider, I was wracking my brain trying to figure out why and how, and then it struck me- you must mean a glider as in rocking chair. I initially thought glider as in engineless airplane! Can you tell I used to live near a small airport??

I write best at my desk, although I do love jotting down thoughts at night or first thing in the morning before I am even out of bed… I also keep a notebook in my handbag for those inspirational thoughts or interesting observations along the way.

I like the closet idea too- My office is out in the open, and with lots of people all around, I was tempted to make an igloo this winter!

Although I will write wherever I am able, my favorite spot is the recliner as well (I’m sitting here know as I write this!). I love a warm blanket over my legs and the sound of the television in the background (comedy channels are most inspiring) as I settle in for a date with my keyboard.
This could be the reason that along with my vocabulary, my backside is expanding as well! I need a laptop I can walk with!

I have two laptops a netbook and an old sub-miniature Dell Axion By the way, Netbooks can handle an immense amount of programs: I have OpenOffice and MS Office as well as E-Sword on my Acer. Just remember to save to a large (at least 8GB disk). I write in between barn management duties and in the small hours of both mornings (the day of and day before the next. I have a very small room that I rent
and use the bed as an office when I’m really aching and tired and an old office chair at my makeshift book-case desk (a 3′ book case with a shelf attached to the top = a desk.)
Pre-dawn hours are times with the Father and bed-check at night (counting horses and repairing horse-mischief at 11pm) provides a chance to ask Him questions and for the blessing I need to get up and do it all over again in a few hours.
Netbooks are a close competitor to iPads and can do as good a job. You can download the Amazon Kindle reader program as well.I’m experimenting with this for my MDiv/PhD studies.
