“What’s Good About Good Friday?”
The message of yesterday’s worship service still ring in my ears. A wonderful reminder that even in death there is Hope.
The message of the cross.
The film flashed as Jesus was beaten, then nailed to the cross as the sacrificial lamb. Roman crucifixion was a shameful, painful and lingering way to die. Before crucifixion, most victims were beaten with leather whip lined with bits of metal or bone tied to it (Matthew 20:19). That was how Jesus died-the most horrific death.
As Jesus was beaten, insulted, and eventually nailed to the cross, flashes of my sins came to mind- each and every bit of my transgressions. Yet, with every drop of blood pouring out from his body, instantly, my sins were washed away like snow. That kind of love consumed me.How do I respond to that kind of love?
What’s good about Good Friday?
It’s an awesome reminder that Jesus died so you and I can live. Because of the cross, we are transformed and restored into new lives.
“He was pierced for our transgression, he was crushed for our iniquities; his punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 3:-5- 6).”
Imagine for a moment that we are there at the foot of the cross consumed by the heat of the day as we are witnessing our Savior in pain and anguish, nailed upright on that wooden cross for all of us to see. What are you thinking? I’m thinking of my own suffering as nothing in compare to his. I’m thinking I’m crucifying him every time I sin. I’m thinking how very much He loves me, even when at times I feel that no one else does. I believe as he has promised that he will return for me, and will never leave me nor forsake me. Then I am thinking, how can he love so much that he even ask His Heavenly Father to forgive me in spite of what I have done to him at the cross?
Where were you when Jesus was crucified?
It doesn’t matter where we are. He will meet us where we are. Many of us know and even memorized John 3:16. But John 3:17 has the same impact in my life. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him .”
What’s good about Good Friday?
The message of the cross.
The Hope of Resurrection.
Thank God that Sunday is coming.
Prepare your hearts.
