As we approach Easter, I always ponder what He went through in the week leading to the Cross. Then, I wonder what He wants to do in my life, right here, right now......

So life might look a little different than you thought it was going to. The marriage isn’t picture perfect. Job leaves something to be desired. Or, you’re single and can’t seem to find your “true love”. The deep friends or purposeful life you thought would be there seem elusive. Kids are turning your hair gray. You are having trouble making ends meet in this shaky economy, with more outgo than in-come. Health issues have shaken your vision of the Golden Years of retirement. What is going on?
God is still there, He has not left you. But, perhaps He did not give you His itinerary in the reconstruction of your life. You see, when you recognized your need for Him and the life-giving work of Calvary, you handed the deed of the property of your heart, and the right to run your life, over to a new owner: God himself. He has come to take possession and may be doing some general maintenance or a whole remodel, but the choice is His.
C.S. Lewis puts it this way in his book Mere Christianity:
“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of…..”
So, God may want to take you down to the studs. He may find dry rot in your support walls. He may need to replumb your mind to get His thoughts flowing in you freely. He may find termites of sin eating away your spirit. He is pouring Himself a new foundation in you – literally – HE is to be the foundation. He is making you a holy sanctuary - a place where He resides.
Whatever work the Great Carpenter wants to do on your extreme makeover, the end result will be worth it. He has the blueprint. Jeremiah says “I know the plans I have for you, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
“You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:5)
