Encouragement
The middle part of the USA (including Oklahoma where I was born and raised) has been VERY dry. The miracle of Spring is coming, so we are praying and hoping for rain.
Though I was only 8 yrs. of age in 1936, I remember that we only made 3 bales of cotton on 60+ acres of land and was our worst year ever on our farm.
The next year, we had rain and our alfalfa crop was great.
Dad showed Mom and us 4 sons the check he rec'd for that alfalfa seed crop.
It was for over $1000 which was a LOT back then...enough that we went to Arizona to visit an uncle and his family.
They farmed cotton that was watered by artisan wells. We watched in awe as the water gushed out of those wells, bringing water from below. We even got to swim in the canals which was such a treat for us!
Back during the 1930's depression, President Roosevelt created what could be called a 'Stimulus Plan' by putting people to work building schools, dams, and soil conservation projects. My school (Friendship, Ok.) was built as was the Altus-Lugert Lake/Dam which since then, has watered many cotton and other fields that have produced great crops.
That plan gave many people jobs, including La Moyne's Dad.
Kurt Kaiser wrote a song about Springtime for vegetation....
and also our need for Spiritual rain.
Many years ago, we were blessed to hear him play the piano and sing while we attended Falls Creek Baptist Youth Camp here in Oklahoma.
"Bring Back The Springtime" (Words and Music by Kurt Kaiser in 1970)
"When in the spring, the flowers are blooming bright and fair,
After the grey of winter's gone.
Once again the lark begins his tuning,
Back in the meadows of my heart.
Chorus
Lord, to my heart bring back the springtime.
Take away the cold and dark of sin.
And, Oh refill me now, sweet Holy Spirit:
May I warm and tender be again.
Lord, make me like that stream that flows so cool and clear
Down from the mountains high above;
I will tell the world the wondrous story
Of the precious stream filled with your Love.
Chorus:
Lord, to my heart bring back the springtime.
Take away the cold and dark of sin.
And, Oh refill me now, sweet Holy Spirit:
May I warm and tender be again."
Someone once said, "A miracle is something that can't happen...until it does!"
I heard of a town that gathered to pray for rain. Only one little girl brought an umbrella.
The Bible speaks often of prayer and faith...not to faint nor give up.
~ "We ought always to pray and not faint." (Luke 18:1)
~ "We will reap if we faint not." (Galatians 6:9)
~ The Holy Spirit will help us as we pray. (Romans 8:26)
~ "The effectual fervent prayer can avail much." (James 5:16)
~ "Be serious when you pray." God is as He answers! (I Peter 4:7)
~ Jesus said, "Ask, seek and knock." (Matthew 7:7)
It takes the miracle of rain as crops can not survive without it.
It takes God's spiritual rain for us...as we can not really live without it.
A few years ago, our daughter brought her recording studio down from Denver and recorded us singing and one of the songs is entitled "It Took A Miracle".
Before we sang that song, Jane said, "I'd like to hear you sing it like you did on the mission field....without accompaniment." So we did....
Jane had tears in her eyes as she said, "We're going to leave it as it is."
We knew that it was indeed a MIRACLE for Travis to be able to sing at all...
having had vocal chord cancer a few yrs. before.
As you can imagine, that song has special meaning to our family!
We wrote John W. Peterson asking for permission to sing his song....
and he graciously gave us permission to do that.
He also gave us permission to use his song "It Took A Miracle" as the title for our album.
You can hear one of the songs from that album on this site:

John W. Peterson and Carlton Buck wrote another beautiful song, "I Believe in Miracles".
"Creation shows the power of God
There's glory all around.
And those who see must stand in awe
For miracles abound.
I cannot doubt the work of God
It's plain for all to see.
The miracles that He has wrought
Should lead to Calvary.
The love of God, oh power divine...
'Tis wonderful to see.
The miracle of grace performed
Within the heart of me.
I believe in miracles...
I've seen a soul set free.
Miraculous the change in one
Redeemed through Calvary.
I've seen the lily push its way
Up through the stubborn sod.
I believe in miracles
For I believe in God."
La Moyne and I do....we hope you do also!
