Perhaps the most basic problem we have as human beings is that we do not realize how valuable we are to the Lord.
We often make the same mistake that Esau made when he sold his birth right for a mess of pottage.
Genesis 25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
Genesis 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
Heb.12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled… as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
It’s like being the heir of a vast fortune and giving it up to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short while. Similar to the Prodigal son…Luke 15: 11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
He didn’t value his life, nor his father’s inheritance, but wanted to enjoy life now. We can say that the opposite of this was as Moses did….
Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
In the day that Adam was created, this was a unique creation of God. The creator was God the Word, who later became Jesus Christ. He formed Adam of the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. Eve was formed from Adam’s rib. Did they appreciate the unique way they had been created? No one else was created in the way they were.
Then the greatest tragedy struck as Adam and Eve , deceived by Satan, speaking through the serpent, disobeyed God, traded their inheritance for a piece of fruit which represented the knowledge of good and evil, and lost everything they had been given by God in a flash. They lost the peace and happiness they previously had, as Satan’s kingdom flooded into them from the second heavens surrounding them. All of a sudden they had thoughts, fears, emotions and feelings they did not understand. They had fear, they hid from the LORD, why? Because they were ashamed that they were naked. The LORD asked them, “who told you you were naked?” The LORD knew there was no one else around, and that what they were thinking was not really them but thoughts given to them by that other kingdom that flooded into them and now had direct access to their thoughts through disobedience. Before this time Satan could not influence them directly in their thoughts. That is why he had to use the serpent in the very first case of channeling spirits. Now, after their disobedience, he had the right to access them directly in their thoughts. Satan’s kingdom of sin came in and they were never the same again.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
Genesis 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
10 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Adam and Eve did not value their inheritance, they did not value their lives, but were deceived into thinking that God was keeping something from them and not telling them everything. They were not satisfied, they wanted more, and they wanted it all. So they lost everything, and were cast out of the Garden of Eden, never allowed to return again!
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the Garden of Eden a Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
However, God did not give up on Adam and Eve, and He hasn’t given up on us either. God continues to long for that personal fellowship, the relationship that He once enjoyed with Adam and Eve that was broken off by their disobedience. So the much so that He made a way to be redeemed to Him, through His Son Jesus Christ.
He sent Jesus to seek and to save that which was lost.
By His sacrifice on the cross Jesus has made it possible for us to be forgiven and cleansed from sin, to be reconciled with God as one of His sons, one of His daughters. One of His own family, and inherit the promises He promised to Abraham, by faith in Jesus.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then they, which be of faith, are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
So, don’t you think in God’s eyes we are valuable? Look at the story of the pearl of great price. This is one of the most precious, as it depicts the Lord’s expression of His love and our worth to Him, as He gave up everything to descend to this Earth, become one of us, to live for love and die for love that we may live forever and show His love to others. This is how valuable we are to Him. This is how much we re worth to Him.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
So who told you that you are not worth anything? Not Jesus, that’s for sure. His Word says completely different, and His Words are just as much for you and me as they were for His disciples 2000 years ago. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever”
Maybe you never saw yourself as important. Maybe you have a poor self image. You may be looking back at the pain and suffering in your life, the disappointments, years wasted, remorse over the past and fear of the future.
But that is not the way The Father sees you. He loves you so much that He gave up everything to show you, and to redeem you for Himself. That is how much you are worth to Him.
The Apostle Paul said these words but you can make them your words too by repeating them over and over again and again, until you have it so memorized, so a part of you that you are encouraged by these words, as if they were big said to you personally, because ,actually, they are!
“He loved me and gave Himself for me………He loved me and gave himself for me……He loved me and gave Himself for me.” Again and again and again until you are convinced of His everlasting, and personal love for you.
See yourself as that “pearl of great price” being held in the scarred hands of Jesus. Listen to Him as He says to you, “ You are so beautiful, you cost me everything I had, but I don’t regret it for one moment. Because now you are mine ,forever!”
There will never be anything you could ever do in order to earn this or be worthy of it, or deserve it. You can’t even change yourself or make yourself good enough. All He asks is to accept it, believe it, and thank Him for it.
You belong to Him, so don’t let that other kingdom, the kingdom of sin, Satan’s kingdom lie to you and deceive you like he did Eve.
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
When Eve was deceived she believed another gospel, other than that one which the LORD taught her.
Whatever you believe, other than that which the Word says, the Gospel of Christ, is another gospel; another “good news” which you will find is going to actually be bad news for you when you see where it is going to lead you.
Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Don’t put visions, dreams, prophecies, revelations, signs and wonders, or miracles before the Word of God.
18 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Even the Anti-Christ and the false prophet will do signs and wonders to deceive the world.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Jesus said MANY false Christs and false prophets shall arise and they will do great signs and wonders to even
deceive the very elect, God’s true children! Jesus repeated it four different places in the same chapter. When Jesus has to repeat things again and again it is time to pay attention to what He is saying! Listen to this man talk to you!
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
10 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; in so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Jesus didn’t care how many miracles were going to be done even in His name! Do you hear what He is saying? Miracles and wonders will be a dime a dozen in the last days. Only the true miracles done by the work of the Holy Spirit will ever change hearts and get people back to God. Just the miracles themselves won’t cut it. So don’t be deceived by miracles or prophecies, even if they come to pass!
Deuteronomy 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
WE HAVE A MORE SURE WORD OF PROPHECY.
Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
