What If?
By Tracye Gano
Are you sure of what you have believed? As Christians we need to be sure that what we believe is according to Scripture and scripture alone. Modern day society is a mine field of false teachings, half truths and bogus claims, yet many people have no clue they are following the broad road to destruction. They assume that because the “preacher” the “expert” the self proclaimed prophet said it, it must be so, without ever giving God’s Word a second glance as to what is truth and what is not.
It is imperative in today’s modern mine fields to know the Word of God and what it says.
We need to start asking ourselves as well as others the “what if” questions of life; the answer can mean the difference between heaven and hell for eternity.
What if … Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to God except through Him?
I read and hear from the world and from many that profess Christ that Jesus is not the only way. That there are many avenues to heaven and Jesus is just one of them. This heresy is being taught not only by the world but also in many churches. There is a push today to be accepting of all beliefs because there is no one right way.
The Word of God says that there is only one way and that Christ alone is the way. The Word of God is truth, God cannot lie, so therefore those who say that there are other ways to God are dead wrong and will face eternity in hell without God because of their rejection of the truth that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but through Him.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:10-12 (KJV)
What if … There is a Heaven and a Hell?
The Word of God says there is. Yet churches today are entertaining songs written by men who say “Imagine there is no heaven or hell”. The world says there is no real heaven or hell. The multitudes live their daily lives with no regard to where they will spend eternity. They live their lives as if there is no heaven or hell.
There is no fear of a Holy God who has the power of life and death. They will one day stand before a Holy God and be required to give an account.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV)
Those who ignore the truth will one day find themselves on the other side of eternity with no way out.
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 (KJV)
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7 (KJV)
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Psalms 9:17 (KJV)
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. Luke 16:23-24 (KJV)
What if … God will not be Mocked?
The Word of God says that He will not be mocked; yet multitudes mock Him daily. The word mocked can mean a mocking; making fun of or can also mean to imitate or counterfeit. In today's pluralistically, relevant apostasy God is mocked in many ways. The world mocks God in their thoughts, words, and actions. We have come to expect to see that from the world, but those who claim the name of Christ also mock God through their false teachings, their irreverent treatment of His Word His sanctuary and His people. God tells us in His Word to not be deceived, He will not be mocked. What we spend our time on earth doing will be what we sow for eternity.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7, 8 (KJV)
What if … The Narrow Gate is the True Gate?
We hear much today from those who want to be “relevant” that we should not be so dogmatic, that doctrine divides, that we are to just “love” others and let God do the sorting. Those who want to be relevant to the world say we should not burden them with the talk of sin or the heaviness of Godly living; but accept them in their sin and love them into the kingdom. This all sounds warm and fuzzy but is eternally deadly none the less.
God says that the road to eternity is narrow. To truly love someone is to tell them the truth. No amount of candy coating sin is going to change a person’s need for Jesus Christ and His shed blood.
When Jesus spoke to the young rich man in Mark 10 it says that Jesus loved him; Jesus loved him by telling him the truth. In this tragic story the young rich man chose to not to do what Jesus told him he needed to do and most likely died in his sins and is in hell for all eternity.
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10:21 (KJV)
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV)
What if … Jesus says “Depart from Me”
Many are gambling their eternity on the words of false teachers and false prophets? They have itching ears and no longer want sound doctrine. The list of heretical things being taught by those who have a form of godliness but deny the power grows daily. Multitudes accept the heresies of these false teachers because they are ignorant of what the Word of God teaches.
It is so important for each of us to know God’s word for ourselves to guard against those who wear sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravening wolves. We are told to turn away from such.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Tim 3:5 (KJV)
Jesus is speaking to those who “profess” to know Him, who professes to have worked miracles in His name, yet He tells them to depart.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:20-23 (KJV)
What if … We are but a Heartbeat Away from Eternity?
We are living in the last days of the last days and time is growing short. The times are perilous and deceptive and will only grow worse with each passing day.
Don’t rest in the lies of the world or the lies of the false teachers that tell you that you can have it all now, that God is more concerned with how you treat the earth and aids victims than He is with the lost souls of humanity. These deceptive lies are from the enemy of our souls the devil, being propagated by wolves in sheep’s clothing. We are warned repeatedly to be discerning of the times we live in.
The only way that we can be discerning of the devils lies brought by men is to know the Word of God and His Son Jesus Christ personally.
We can trust God; His Word is trustworthy and final.
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. Psalms 18:30 (KJV)
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Proverbs 30:5 (KJV)
