There’s a few things in life that we just can’t live without to nurture our body such as: oxygen, food and water. But there is something far greater that our spiritual life cannot do without; and that is called prayer. A Christian who doesn’t pray is like a car without gasoline; it goes no-where. Prayer is essential if we want to be an overcomer, prosper spiritually and know the heart of the Father. Our prayer time is where we find God; it’s where we run to when we fall down.
Our strength comes from the Lord and the power of His might. (Ephesians 6:10) We alone are weak. We are feeble and cannot make it without his strength in our lives. As Christians we are facing evil days. Why? Because we have an enemy. 1 Peter 5:8 states that our enemy, satan, goes around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Lions are fierce and show no mercy to their pray. They devour relentlessly. This is how our enemy Satan is. If he can find an area of weakness that we aren’t giving over to God, he will attack us in that area. He has 3 goals for our life. He wants to Kill, Steal and Destroy us. (John 10:10) But we can be protected.
Ephesians 6:10 starts off: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. See, he has made provision for us to be strong, but it’s only found through him. How do we do this? The next verse goes on to say v.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Did you know that there is a spiritual world that we can’t see with the naked eye. Although, God does sometimes give glances to people. There are both angels and demons in this invisible world. It’s here that our armor is revealed. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. V.13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. So you see, it’s extremely important that we are dressed for battle in order to be protected from the attacks of our enemy.
Verse 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth,… This scripture is telling us to be ready for battle. The truth is found in the Word. The truth is what Jesus spoke and what he lived on earth. It’s the promises of God and anything in the Bible that brings light to our lives. We must get ourselves ready for what is ahead. Being prepared to go to battle by knowing the truths of God’s word. …having put on the breastplate of righteousness. I bet you didn’t know living righteously was a defense against evil. Righteousness always prevails against sin. 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Shoding your feet is a type of covering. Everywhere we tread we are to live the gospel. A Christian’s whose feet are shod with the gospel doesn’t take it off depending on where they go. No, the gospel is with them at all times living through them and telling others the good news. 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. When the enemy shoots arrows of fear, doubt, sickness, anxiety or whatever it may be, quench them by not believing in them. Believe more on what the word of God says about the situations than what satan is aiming at you. When you do this, those fiery darts will hit your shield but you will be protected by standing in faith against them. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Our minds belong to Christ now. He has crowned our heads with salvation. This same scripture refers to the word of God being a sword. Do you know this is the only armor that is used as an offense rather than defense like the other parts mentioned. The word of God is our defense in fighting against the enemy. In one arm we have a shield of faith and the other hand the sword of the spirit. We must know what God’s word says for us in order to fight the enemy. We can’t fight effectively unless we know the truths in His word. Once we’ve girded ourselves with the truth of the word, we can use those truths and speak them against the enemy. 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
