WASHINGTON - United for urgent action, the White House and Congress raced toward emergency steps Thursday to rescue the national economy from a possible recession, including tax rebates of $300 or more for many Americans.
This is like being thrown a lead life preserver while drowning.
Isn't it comforting to know that they are always looking out for us, speeding towards danger like Mighty Mouse used to do? It's a good thing the average American doesn't know you can't do much about an approaching recession with last minute measures any more than you can by waiting until a flood comes to build a dam. That's why, in a dictionary used only by political leaders, the word "ignorance" is described as "a very present help in time of need." Lying shares the same definition.
Joseph Goebbels, minister of propaganda for Adolph Hitler, said this about lying:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.â€
So, as Pilate once asked, what is truth? And like Pilate, they'd rather wash their hands of the matter while appearing to deal with it.
First, the economy is dynamic, influenced by many things, from the decisions of consumers and investment bankers to the realities of droughts, wars and lost crops. Government can't control it. Yet the White House and Congress “race toward emergency steps†to rescue us from a possible recession. It’s written the same as if they were trying to save someone from a speeding truck. And how will they save us? Tax rebates. Sure, I’ll take the $300. It was taken from me to begin with. But $300 is not going to significantly alter any American’s financial situation.
Our government prints legal tender (that's what it says on the dollar). I purposely didn’t say money because anything people find value in they can use as money. Money is simply a medium of exchange. In prison, cigarettes are money. Our dollar bill is only as good as the wealth that backs it. That used to be gold. Ah, but President Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1968. So what backs the dollar now? The word of the government, of course! And they print as much as they desire. This gives you some idea why the dollar now won’t buy as much as it did years ago. In 1913 a dollar was worth a dollar. It could be redeemed for gold. In 2006 it took $20.13 to equal that same dollar. It can be redeemed for…four quarters. Aren't you impressed?
What made the dollar so worthless? Why, the same folks who are now running to rescue us from a recession they created by eating out the value of the dollar over the years; slowly, like termites, so that we wouldn’t be alarmed. Slowly, so that the most we’ll say about it is, “Boy, have you seen what the price of milk is lately? It was less than half that when I was a kid.†I'm being rescued from my burning house by the same guy who torched it. My hero.
You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. – Lev. 19:36
The United States of America has no honest weights and measures. It simply has paper the government says are worth what it says they are worth. What they are running to rescue is not the economy. That’s like trying to save your teenage son from drugs with a ten minute speech when you never spent any time teaching him right from wrong. By then, it’s too late. What they are doing is manipulating images. They are like the clown who tries to keep ten plates spinning on sticks all at the same time. Sooner or later they fail. Because it's not possible that an economy or anything else can be run that way.
Honest scales and weights are only made by honest people. So if we don't have them you don't have to have a degree from Harvard to understand why. There's not a person reading this who can't understand Economics 101. We're not stupid. We're just not paying attention because those we elected are supposed to be handling it.
But, unfortunately, liberty is only maintained by diligence. When we stop paying attention to our yards, nature takes over. When we stop paying attention to the character of our leaders and ourselves, fallen nature takes over. We can pay attention volutarily or wait until the next crisis forces us to. That's just no way to live.
