Zoe Life 02
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
What is everlasting life? Every man born of woman has everlasting life, it is just a matter of where he will spend it, even those who go to hell have everlasting life, so what exactly is Jesus referring to… and what makes this life different…
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
When Jesus said this, he wasn’t talking to dead people; he was talking to people who had life or who were alive, they were listening to him… so what was Jesus talking about?
There are 5 words translated as life in the greek new testament…
Psuche, bios, agoge, anastrophe and Zoe…
W.E. Vine zoe (Eng., "zoo," "zoology") is used in the NT "of life as a principle, life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself, and which He gave to the Incarnate Son to have in Himself and which the Son manifested in the world…
This word Zoe does not refer to duration of life but rather quality of life, life as God has it, complete in itself, unaffected and unaltered by circumstances.
Life as God has it… John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
Gen. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Adam was a living soul… he had the ability to pass on this life to all his offspring but instead Adam chose to disobey God, the life of God in him died and he became a dead soul, now he passed death to all his offspring…
The only way to walk in abundant life is to co-operate with the word of God… Adam died because he didn’t co-operate with God’s word…
Gen. 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
The same day you eat of it, you will die…
Gen. 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Now Adam didn’t die in the flesh until he was 930 so when God said you will surely die in the day you eat of it he had something else in mind… it was spiritual death or a spiritual existence separated from God and the life of God.
Adam was meant to introduce life into the earth but instead death was introduced by Adams sin…
Rom. 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Sin still separates but it doesn’t need to any more…
Let’s talk about life…
1Th. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Zoe for the spirit, psuche for the soul and bios for the spirit… agoge means lifestyle, manner of life i.e. disciplined lifestyle…
2Tim. 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience…
Anastrophe means conduct or behaviour…
Gal. 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
In old times it had to do with how you lived whereas now it means what you say…
Jesus came to give us Zoe… John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus came to give us something we didn’t already have, why would Jesus go to the cross, face all the agony and the suffering to give us something we already had?
John 3:16, John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
If you believe on him you have Zoe, if you do not believe on him you do not have Zoe…
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Jesus is the giver of life…
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Zoe is the present condition of the believers, if we believe on him we have already passed from death to life, what does it mean to pass from death to life?
John 3:3 Rom 8:14 only those who are born again are the sons of God…
If we are the sons of God and he is our father then we take on his attributes and we take on his nature…
2Pet. 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
John 14:6 I am the Zoe… Zoe only comes through Jesus
1Cor. 15:45 And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living (zao) soul; the last Adam was made a quickening (zoopoieo) spirit. Adam was a living soul or he had Zoe Life but Jesus was a Zoe life creator, he creates Zoe life in all who give their lives to him.
John 17:1-2 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
Only those the Father has given him have eternal life…
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Eternal life is the present actual possession of the believer because of his relationship with Christ.” – Vines Complete Expository Dictionary
The book of John emphasizes eternal life as the present reality and the present possession of the Christian.” – Illustrated Dictionary of the Bible
Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
Repentance leads to Zoe…
Acts 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Zoe was offered to the Jews and they refused it and so it was offered to the gentiles…
Col. 2:9-10 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
We are not a work in progress as far as God is concerned, we are complete… from our perspective we are a work in progress but it is our soul that is growing not our spirit…
Eph. 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Rom. 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
This is not the old life, this is a new life, it is empowered by the life of God and it gives us access to all the promises of God…
2Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
What is so different about this life, we are a new creature but what does that mean?
Al things are become new?
What part of us is a new creature and what part is become new?
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Rom. 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (zo0poieo, make alive, create life) your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
1John 5:11-13 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Zoe only comes by Jesus Christ, everyone who is born of God has Zoe, we have the Zoe life of God in us now, we need to learn what it is and how to walk in it…
