WORD FOR TODAY
PSALM 91: 2
I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, My God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust!
SUMMARY:
Is the Lord your place of Refuge? Let’s see what a place of refuge really is. My own definition is (a place of safety, a place where nothing and no one can hurt you). So for the child of God, being in the presence of God is your place of safety. Your fortified city, your Goshen (a place of safety). Now what is a fortress? My definition is like a large wall all around you, have you ever seen those older movies where two groups of people are fighting? Then one group lives in a city that has a large wall all around it, once they make it inside the wall or inside the gates of their city they are safe.
Now in the movies sometimes the enemy does get over the wall or into the gates of the city. But when God is your Fortress you do not have to worry about the enemy breaking through your Fortress because God is your fortress! Are you leaning and relying on God? Or are you trying to handle your problems on your own? When we lean and rely on Go all the stress leaves! All the headaches leave. We can lay down at night and really get a good nights sleep. But if we try to handle our own problems we will not be able to sleep or rest. Staying up all night pacing the floor will accomplish absolutely nothing except to put dark circles under your eyes and have you walking around looking like Count Dracula!
God can work out your marriage problems, give him a chance. God can save your unsaved spouse, give him a chance. God can bring unity and harmony into the body of Christ, give him a chance. God can bless you with the job you desire, give him a chance. If God told you to quit your job he certainly has another way of providing for you. If God told you to take in homeless children he will give you everything you need to care for them.
Do you trust God? Do you really trust him? When was the last time you found yourself doubting him about something? What was the reason that you did not trust God? Is there anything too hard for God? Luke 1: 37 says that nothing is too hard or impossible for God to do. We must learn how to trust God more. For instance one day I took my car in to get the glass repaired. There were two large African American Men in the shop when I arrived. I had my puppy with me because we had been to the Vet. I walked outside and waited for them to repair my window. Then a younger African American man drove into the shop with his car. He came outside also and was standing around for a little while then he went back inside. Then all of a sudden he comes running back out of the shop!
The larger African American man was chasing him and calling him names! They ran right past me and my puppy. The larger African American guy was chasing the younger guy but he could not catch him. Some people in the store next to the glass shop came out and were trying to calm the larger man down but he swung at them and they started running too! Now the old unsaved me would have seen all this and took off to get out of the path of this monstrous man. But I was not afraid or scared I stood there and watched all this and didn’t even think that I was in any danger. Ofcourse I did plead the blood of Jesus over myself and my puppy. Anyway the larger man realized he could not catch the smaller man and he began to walk back to the glass shop. He walked right past me so close he could have kissed me if he wanted too. But he did not say a word to me did not try to harm me in any way.
My point in telling that true story is that I was confident in the fact that I was safe even in the midst of possible harm. I was confident that God was with me. I was confident in the power of the Blood of Jesus! So are you confident in the Lord? Do you believe God’s Word? Do you trust in God with all of your heart?
What have we learned so far? If we abide or dwell in God’s presence we will be kept safe from all harm. If we believe in our hearts and speak out of our mouths that God is our Refuge and Fortress he will be. We will not have dark circles under our eyes if we confidently trust in God. He will protect us and fight our battles for us.
