Gospel
[Author's note: 'lox' is
a type of salmon - cooked,
pickled, or something -
that's common with
Jewish food.]
Peter went up to the housetop
to pray......... he became hungry
and desired something to eat;
.....he fell into a trance and saw
the heaven opened and something
descending like a great sheet,
let down by four corners
upon the earth......
....in it were all kinds of animals,
and reptiles, and birds.........
...there came a Voice to him,
Rise Peter; kill and eat!
[Acts 10:9-13]

"Lord."
"What."
"To be honest, I....."
"Speak up, child!
I am listening."
"I really don't like this
Part."
"Tell Me, child."
"Well, 'Ya know,
I always thought of
You as sorta' being
on the Kosher side."
[NOD.]
"This Part disappoints me,
Lord. I'm sorry, but...."
"Do I disappoint you, child?"
"Well, eh.......not in
the HUMAN way, Lord.
I mean, since, 'Ya know...
You ARE Different, and all."
[NOD.]
"I mean, I can't believe
You would lower Your
Kosher standards!
How COULD You?"
"What have I told you,
My beloved."
"Oh. You mean about
this part:
For My thoughts
are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways
My ways,
says the Lord.
[Isaiah 55:8]
Sorry it took me so
long to find this, again,
Lord. I guess I'm
gettin' old."
"Put it on your heart, child."
"I HAVE, Lord!
It's my mind that's havin'
the trouble; I was looking
it up in Ezekiel."
[NOD.]
"But, what about the
Kosher dill, Lord?"
"What about it, child."
"I really can't think of
anything better
in the history of mankind's
achievements."
[SOLEMN NOD.]
"Well, except for the
invention of popcorn;
I mean the sloppy, artificial,
buttery stuff that
you eat in a freezing
cold movie theatre,
in the middle of a
scary movie."
[NOD.]
"'Can't beat it, Lord."
"I don't wish to, child."
(laugh)
"I'm been told why
You said This to Peter,
Lord."
"Tell Me what YOU
think, child."
"'Cuz' this was the time
of the New Covenant;
so, eh.....You know.....
Kosher didn't apply,
anymore."
"Well said, My precious."
"Yeah! But, Lord!
How can You put down
the slightly burnt,
toasted bagel,
swathed in Philly Cream Cheese,
and topped with a couple
slices of ice cold lox?"
[SMILE.]
"I guess this Part just
makes me think of food,
Lord."
"Yes, child."
(silence)
"I'm not disappointed
in You, Lord: ever."
I love You."
[SILENCE.]
"After all, Who
gave us the Kosher dill?"
[SMILE.]

But Peter said,
No Lord;
for I have never eaten anything
that is common or unclean.
And the Voice came to him again...
What God has cleansed, you must
not call common.
This happened three times,
and the thing was taken
at once to Heaven.
[Acts 10:14-16]
(To Elaine Michaelson,
who always kept her
refigerator stocked with
pickles and lox.)
