“While he was in Beit-Anyah, in the home of Shim’on (a man who had had tzara’at), and as he was eating, a woman came with an alabaster jar of perfume, pure oil of nard, very costly, broke the jar and poured the perfume over his head.
But some there angrily said to themselves, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for a year’s wages and given to the poor!” And they scolded her.
But Yeshua said, “Let her be. Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me. For you will always have the poor with you; and whenever you want to, you can help them. But you will not always have me. What she could, she did so –in advance she poured perfume on my body to prepare it for burial.
Yes! I tell you that wherever in the whole world this Good News is proclaimed, what she has done will be told in her memory.” Mark 14:3-9 (Complete Jewish Bible)
I was reading this again, and the words “She has done a beautiful thing for me”, leaped of the page.
Now allow yourself to ask with me this question:
Did I ever a beautiful thing for Jesus Himself?
This might cost some soul searching, for me at least.
The woman just spent a year’s wages spontaneously on Jesus.
A poor widow gave once her last two copper coins to God and Jesus happened to notice that too, and I feel sure in my heart that He made some provision for her.
There was once a young lad, who gave five loaves and two fishes, but do you remember the young rich ruler who had a lot to give - he could not do it!
For God it is not the amount, but the heart that matters.
God loves cheerful givers.
Once, the Lord asked me, after reading the story about the rich young ruler, if I was willing to give up everything I had, to sell it and give it to the poor.
I was still young and was neither rich nor poor; He made me willing to do this for Him.
He showed me the right way to spend it on the poor in Africa.
I had forgotten all about it, when weeks later I received some beautiful reports back.
In it I read that hundreds of people had received a good meal and heard about the gospel of Jesus Christ - people got saved and were healed and there was Joy in heaven!
Yes, we still can do beautiful things for Jesus in many different ways and the people around us might not understand it, that’s okay as longs as Jesus does!
