Poetry
Hope raises no dust
I wonder what that means
Does it mean rebirth
Or resurrection
Pure bodies unstained
By the graveyard’s dirt
Perhaps, there is more
Perhaps, dust is sin
Cutting words from the past
I spoke to someone
I loved or someone
Beloved spoke to me
Their memory clings
Like dust to mirrors
And distorts the view
My view of myself
Or the one I love
Till I no longer
See God’s beauty in
My beloved or me
Seeing only dust
The dust of the past
Dust of criticism
Reflecting often
An intent to wound
Where none exists
But when the water
Of forgiveness cleans
The mirror again
Reflects God’s beauty
His beauty in me
And the one I love
The reflected light makes
Bright Rainbows of hope
That eclipse the dust
Rainbows inspire us
To gaze ahead
Into the distance
At the brilliance
Of a future with
A new clarity
In conversation
New dust no longer
Sticks as easily
For our eyes zoom in
Like movie cameras
On rainbows of hope
Hope that transfixes
Hope raises no dust
Or dirt from the past
It sees only light
Bounced from our mirrors,
Which like prisms,
Make rainbows of hope
Transfixing our eyes
On future beauty
