The campaign by Pastor Joe Phelps of Highland Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky concerns me. Though the issues that are being addressed are worthy of looking at (violations of the child labor laws and gender based discriminations), the act of bringing Jesus' name into the mix has crossed the border of using the Lord's name in vain.
In the areas where any of these accusations are proven to be true, the Lord is concerned for his loved ones that are being treated unfairly. But at the same time, I would trust that the Lord has used the Walmart chain in many ways to bless his loved ones at the same time. This being the case, we have to be very careful when we become the voice for God when we are not certain of the total picture that God sees. We are not God, therefore we can't see things from God's eyes.
For example, some may look at the brawling drunkard and say God must have a strong distaste for that man. And this would be true, God would have a strong distaste for that aspect of that person. But unknowingly to us, that same drunkard goes home to kneel by his bedside to ask God for forgiveness for his lack of self-control. God, through his everloving grace, is still working with this person. But because of our assumption, we have already condemned this person as a candidate for Hell, while God is still rooting this person on.
I pray for Pastor Phelps discernment in this area, so that he will glorify God with his campaign oppose to dragging His name through the mud.

This article is too short! I read it and left it with more questions than answers. Who is Pastor Phelps? and who is he to you? He became a phantom, an insignificant pawn on Wal-Marts chess board. The question the title asked was never answered, so I would either change the title or at best, write the article to answer it. Writers learn, often times the hard way, that there should be conflict and then resolution; a, this is what happened and this is what was done about it. Also, what was the reader supposed to take away from this piece? I've read some of your others and this one just had me scratching my head, wondering what I'd just read.
In deciding to patronize any particular company consider their reputation on how workers are treated, and whether or not people in third-world sweatshops must work 12-16 hours a day to produce their goods on a slave wage. Don't be hasty to judge any company as being guilty of such abuses until you have sufficient well-documented information, not just hearsay. It's great to be able to buy cheap goods, especially when you're struggling yourself. But Jesus, Who was once a poor Carpenter, loves impoverished workers and wants social justice for all.
Thanks Don, you are an awesome brother because we are called to challenge each other when something we say does not sound to be in tune with the Holy Word, and you have chosen to do so. And it is worthy of saying it is a lesson to be learned. For this reason, if I or anyone ever say anything that is questionable, we should all be challenging it. As the Lord puts a new song on my heart, I would always hope to present it well, because to be zealous without knowledge is foolishness. Lord's blessings. The question of 'Would Jesus shop at Walmart?' is the slogan of a present campaign by Pastor Phelp. My point was not to answer the question, but to point out that I believed that the slogan or question is inappropiate. Because after witnessing this slogan, my spirit had grieved. And I had knew at that point that some of our brothers and sisters would question if this were coming from the Lord or not. I also knew that some of my unbelieving friends and associates would question me as to why we quick to use the Lord's name in getting our point across. So after speaking with the Lord on this matter, this was the song that I woke up with this morning. I hope that clears up what I was trying to say. I don't believe that even if some of the acccusations were true against Walmart, God is not looking to throw the baby out with the dirty water. Thanks again, Lord's blessings.
