Encouragement
May Jesus Christ, the Lord of Peace be with you always.
In John 16:33 we find the Lord encouraging his disciples, in the face of what only could be a time of peace, before Jesus would travel to Jerusalem, for the last time. Jesus speaks about how the world hates you but don’t be despaired, peace can be found in Him for he has overcome the world.
Look around, are you in peace, or are things in your life in need of peace? Recently, I receive an email from a dear person in my life. Telling a story about Brandon, a young child ready to cook pancakes for his mom and dad one Saturday morning. He pulled together the necessary utensils, in preparation for a fantastic pancake breakfast. As he pushed a chair to the cupboard to retrieve the flour canister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now had a few tracks left by his kitten.
Brandon was covered with flour and was getting frustrated. He wanted this breakfast to be very special for mom and dad, but he was getting unset. As he looked over to see if the mixture should go into the oven or on top of the stove, Brandon didn’t know how either worked! Suddenly, he saw the kitten liking from the bowl and reached to push her away, knocking the carton of eggs onto the floor. Frantically, he tried to clean up the mess, but slipping on the egg covered floor, getting his pajamas white and sticky.
As he looked from the floor, there was dad in the doorway. Big crocodile tears welled up in Brandon’s eyes. All he’d wanted was to something good, but he’d created a mess. He was sure dad was going to scold or maybe spank him for what happen. However, his father just watched him. Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying Brandon hugging and loving him, getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process.
As we go “on the way” there must have been times in your life when it became sticky from the mess you created. “On the way” can’t you recount trying to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend, or we can’t stand our job. Thanks be to God, for the times he picks us up, loves us, and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets on Him. The time is now and Jesus provided the answer to have peace in Him. Go tell someone you know that Peace can be found in Jesus Christ.
