I will fear no evil
- That' s Protection!
Because the shepherd is so dedicated to the protection of his sheep, they are comfortable with him. David the author of this Psalm had experienced it first hand. He tells us in 1Sam17:34:
"But David said to Saul, Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock,
35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it.
36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.
37 The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go, and the LORD be with you."
He had experience ferocity of the invading bear and the lion. He trusted God to deliver them into his hands and God did. So when he met with the ranting raging and raving Goliath in the Valley of Elah, and every other person shook, David was confident in his God. David confessed his faith in God and Saul was convinced and allowed him to go and face Goliath. He was bold and strong for the occasion.
Go wants us to be bold and strong- not in ourselves but in Him. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.(1John4:5) Whoever is born of God overcomes this world; and this is the victory that we have in Him, even our faith. (1John5:4).
The more intimate we are with the Lord, the bolder we will be in meeting with the challenges of life.
Fear will kill you a 1000 times before you die. Fear is ‘False Evidence Appearing Real.’ Faith is ’Forgetting Adversity, I Trust Him.’ The statement ‘fear not’ appears directly and indirectly in the Bible 365 times according to some Bible scholars; which amounts to one scripture for each day of the year.
Fear torments. The righteous are as bold as the lion.(Prov.28:1) Perfect love casts away every fear. (1John4:18). Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the whole armour of God that you may and in the evil day.(Ephe6:10) If God be for us, who can be against us?. (Rom8:31 )Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors thorough Christ. Rom.8:37). Thanks be to God who always enables us to have the victory. He leads us in triumphant procession. (1Cor15:57)
God told Abraham Fear not. I am your shield and your abundant compensation. Gen.15:1
He told Joshua: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and be of a good courage. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.(Joshua1:9)
He told Jeremiah: don’t say I am a child I formed you and called you and separated in your mother’s womb to be a prophet to the nations. Don’t be afraid of their faces.
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
6Ah, Sovereign LORD, I said, I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.
7 But the LORD said to me, Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.
8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you, declares the LORD.
Jer 1:4-8
