When I gaze at the flag as it sways majestically in the breeze, I am reminded that freedom is a very precious and a cherished right. Because of this freedom, I gathered with 16,000 women of like faith and unreservedly worshiped without fear. The spokeswomen for Women of Faith, announced that one of our many honored military wife’s, was in attendance. As the spotlight shone upon her, the arena thunderously vibrated with patriotic pride and thankful applauses. Her husband had been deported to defend his family and nation. Therefore, to continue to preserve the values of liberty that our flag so proudly represents and to defeat those who vehemently oppose democracy.
The flag of America means a lot to me, because I can choose any vocational career or Christian service. There is opportunity to attend the best schools regardless of race, creed, and social or economical background. In other countries people do not have these rights.
I am reminded of men like Washington, Jefferson and Patrick Henry and others who willingly paid with their lives to make America a free country. To build this country on Biblical values that all men are created equal within the sight of God, “In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 3:28 New Message Bible).
My heart breaks when I see others disgracing the American flag by burning it, or placing another country’s flag over top of the American flag. Only in American does one have the “freedom of speech,” to show contempt for the flag and democracy. Yet in the House is an amendment to protect the flag which did not go through, because of hindering freedom of speech rights.
It’s ironic that one of our elected Congressmen who fought for our country. Coward under political fire and voted against this amendment. Where is our love for our flag and all it represents? We need to send a tidal wave of phone calls, e-mails, and faxes to our elected officials. To let them know there is a majority who still believes and respects out flag. So that when this amendment returns to the House, it will pass.
The red stripes are a symbol of blood shed from families who willingly gave their sons and daughters to protect our land from other destructive nations. We need to honor those who are not afraid to call upon God for His leadership to maintain our freedom.
Where is our patriotism and love for this country blessed by God? Where is our moral to take a stand for all this country is founded upon for the people and by the people? Doesn’t our flag mean anything to us? Or it is something we have come to take for granted? Have we become too “comfortable” with all the blessings from God?
As we celebrate our nation’s 230th birthday this 4th of July. Take time to reflect on what the American flag means to you?
