PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE TO ME
In the Old Testament the prophet Jeremiah encountered a situation where "The people of Judah have done evil in MY eyes, declares the LORD". Jer. 7:30a. Not necessarily in the eyes of the people themselves. The people were willingly and knowingly indulgent. What were they doing?"They have built high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their SONS and DAUGHTERS in the fire---something I did not command, nor did it enter MY mind." v.31. This practice in the name of worship, religion? The result? The Judahites were destroyed as a culture. v.32-34. Almost totally wiped out, except their bones. So devastating that the survivors of this evil nation preferred death over life. v.8:3. A morbid cloud to live under to say the least. The message? God holds human life from conception in high esteem. Simply put, God loves His created beings.
Moreover, the osteological evidence reveals that most of the victims were children two to three months old, though some were as old as age five. So far no skeleton has shown any signs of pathological conditions that might have caused death. These were healthy children deliberately killed as sacrifices in the manner described in the classical and biblical texts
Now Luke in his gospel records an interesting phenomenon. Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist, when she was 6 months pregnant had a visitor: Mary the mother of Jesus. "When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby LEAPED in her womb..." Luke 1:41. "As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb LEAPED for joy." Luke 1:44. May no mistake about it....the entity in Elizabeth's womb was a living, moving, responsive being.
David declared, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13. Not after he was born. Job stated, "what will I do when God confronts me? What will I answer when called to ACCOUNT? Did not He who made me IN the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both WITHIN our mothers?" Job 31:14,15.
Jeremiah the prophet declares, "The Word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.'" Jeremiah 1:4,5. Can this be explained away? God took a direct, active part in the life of Jeremiah.
The prophet Isaiah proclaimed: "Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were CONCEIVED, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He, I am He Who will sustain you." Isaiah 46:3-4a. A distinction is made here between conception and birth. The God-Hand's-Off crowd does not satisfactorily address these issues. They have exiled FAITH, TRUTH, AND COMMON SENSE.
Summarizing, unborn babies are living. moving, responsive human beings. We adults were all formed that same way. We all hold the same level of accountability. Yes, we will be accountable as a nation and as individuals. Is there THAT much difference between sacrificing children on an alter than killing unborn living babies? Who among us can explain away impending judgment? Who among us can simply explain away this truth? Who among us can be certain that God Himself does not hold very strong feelings about this subject?
