Song Lyrics
I just came back from a mission trip where I worked with amazing Christians from all across the country. I didn't write this about that trip, but I was just thinking, you know, the next time I see most of these people we will all look so much more like Jesus...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From way across the country,
They met for just one week
In a broken inner city,
Bringing love and sharing peace.
He was almost forty-five,
And she was just sixteen.
He knew that she was way too small,
And he’d watch as she would try to eat.
He knew she didn’t have a daddy,
And for one week she was his little girl.
Then they both left for home,
And he didn’t see her anymore.
Until the moment when
They would finally meet again,
Wrapped in robes of white,
And standing side by side in a healing light.
When we’re all beautiful.
In an instant transformed,
In one moment reborn.
What was old slips away,
And what is new takes its place.
And the things that used to drag her down
And bring her to her knees
Will never bother her again
In everlasting peace.
When we’re all beautiful.
She used to teach his Sunday school,
Till she could no longer get around.
Every week he’d roll his wheelchair in
And the kids would gather round.
She read stories about Jesus,
David and Abraham,
And he smiled when he told her
He was going to the Promised Land.
But they said she could not leave her house
One day after she fell,
And though she could no longer teach,
She heard he was not doing well.
But the day would come
When their races had been won,
When they would dance on streets of gold,
Where age and illness have no hold.
When we’re all beautiful.
In an instant transformed,
In one moment reborn.
What was old slips away,
And what is new takes its place.
And the pain that used to hold her back,
His legs that could not run,
Are no more than distant memories
Of human frailties now undone.
When we’re all beautiful.
And the one who lost to cancer
Lives in a body now restored.
And the man who could not give up his drink,
He does not want it anymore.
The one who lived in fear
Here will never need pretend.
The widow without a husband,
Now they’re reunited once again.
When we’re all beautiful.
When our struggles are through,
And our hearts beat brand new.
The hungry are fed,
And the weary find rest.
And the things that would not let us go,
They hold no power here.
And in the presence of perfect love
There’s no more pain and no more fear,
No more anger and no more tears.
When we’re all beautiful.
