Big trouble in little High schools all across Texas.
The first week of high school for my oldest daughter is a week I will never forget. This is going on six years ago and the Brewer continues to have caffeinated fits over the incidents that took place that week.
It wasn¹t boy troubles or the drug culture that gave us a problem. It was that Maegan had the audacity to write ³Jesus loves you² as her screen saver and it started a small firestorm. Her teacher turned off her computer and informed her in front of the whole class that it was ³against the law² for her to do such a thing and any religious ³outburst² would not be tolerated. It embarrassed my daughter and made her feel like she had done something bad even terroristic.
I hold on to my view it was the teacher that made the religious outburst. Maegan was not trying to reach the whole campus for Christ she simply typed a three word slogan that expressed who she was. It wasn¹t until this stooge from the people¹s republic of Burleson threw her left winged fit that Meagan learned she could be anything but a Christian at her public school.
That same teacher did not feel the need to alter or shut down any of the other screen savers in that same class and some of them were terrible. I wonder if that¹s ³against the law?²
I don¹t have any idea what that teacher¹s name was and she may not even teach in Burleson anymore. The point is that this kind of stuff goes on in our schools every day and will continue to go on until people get sick of it and say I have had enough of you cramming your liberal agenda down our throats while accusing us of the very thing that you are doing!
Last week Alisha Coplin, a student at Godley High School was called to the principles office. A complaint had been made to that office by an activist student that she was wearing ³offensive material.² It was a shirt that said ³God doesn¹t believe in atheist either but He sure does love them.²
See, the outright persecution against Christians in our public schools is fast becoming an art form. Non-Christian kids have been taught by activist groups that all they need do is complain to the school that they are offended and most schools feel it is their responsibility to remove the offense.
Sometimes that offense is a kid wearing a shirt with some kind of ³Jesus² slogan. In this case, schools right here in Johnson county, are telling our kids to wear their shirts inside out should there be a complaint and that¹s what the vice principle told Alicia to do. Alicia, to her credit, respectfully declined and said ³no.² She went on to report all of the offenses she had to deal with including gay boys that bring pink purses statements, Gothic kids that where blasphemous statements and others that blatantly promote their sexuality through vulgar behavior. Those kids are allowed to express who they are and in her view until there was something done about the statements on their clothes she should not be singled out as the ³offensive² one.
The school official, to his credit, sent her back to class with her clothes still on the right way. I can not say ³way to go² loud enough. It was right, it was moral and it was legal.
Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice says, ³Number one, the school cannot tell a student not to wear, a cross-or a Star of David, for that matter, if the student was Jewish. That's perfectly allowed. Public school students have the right to wear religious jewelry without any problem.
Secondly, if any student is allowed to wear a T-shirt with a slogan, advertisement or message of any kind, the school cannot deny another student the same right to wear a T-shirt with a Christian message. We've had cases about that issue over the years as well, and generally they've been resolved through letters and other correspondence.²
The bottom line is that schools can not single out and target Christian kids to exterminate their Christianity. It should also be noted that except for Alicia¹s stance, the culture at Godley High would be that virtually every slogan except a Christian one would be accepted on apparel making the only bad guys the Christians that want to publicly be Christians.
As for now it is not yet a federal offense to be Godly in Godley high school or for a kid to be saved in Joshua. (Joshua means salvation). I hope there will be a few more us that will take advantage of that incredible privilege while we still can legally.
