How to Stay Spiritually Healthy
Spiritual healthiness is a key to enduring. It also helps us to maintain a stronger faith to enable us overcome the storms of life.
It is therefore very important that we maintain spiritual alertness by checking ourselves for any signs of spiritual illness.
Spiritual illness can manifest themselves in the following ways:
(a) Lack of quality time in God’s Word.
(b) Using the world’s method to cope when life becomes hard.
(c) Decreasing interest in prayer and wavering obedience.
The key to maintaining spiritual healthiness is by surrendering totally to God and casting all our cares upon the Lord. (1 Peter 5:7).
Having surrendered all your cares on Him, you then have to stay tuned with God by reading His Word and meditating on His promises – remember that you have to know the promises in order to use them.
Try to understand the situation from God’s perspective. Seek to view your trials as God does and then trust and obey. No matter how fierce the storm, when you are with God, there is always a rainbow waiting.
Remind yourself that you are a child of God bought at a price by His Son Jesus and guided by His precious Holy Spirit.
Be encouraged that you are never alone for you serve a mighty God who is your ever-present help in your time of need.
Overcome fear and anxiety by recalling God’s promises and walking by faith and not by sight. (Romans 1:17).
The Greek word we spell “NIKE” means “conquest, success, victory”. God’s Word says we are overcomers. That means we are conquerors, successful and victorious. (1 John 5:4).
When Joshua led the people of Israel around the walls of Jericho, God instructed them to remain silent on the first six trips around the wall. Then on the seventh trip, they were to shout the victory. (Joshua 6).
When Jesus defeated the devil, he actually demonstrated satan’s defeat and shouted: “It is finished!”.
In the stormy periods of life, God has promised you that when you pass through the waters He will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers they shall not overflow you. (Isaiah 43:2).
With Jesus you can overcome any storm. So God want you to see yourself as a world overcomer – victorious and successful!
Cultivate the habit of sharing with others the Father’s love through small acts of kindness and reach out beyond your own trials to those God has placed nearby.
Consider your trials as opportunities to know God more fully and tell others what you are discovering.
Acknowledge the help of others with gratitude and allow them to serve you.
Depend on God throughout the ordeal, and learn the spiritual lessons He desires to teach you.
Now, having successfully weathered the storm of life, you will then be able to look and discover that your testimony not only remains intact but also shines brighter like the stars in a dark sky and your faith walk will be strengthened.
You can then shout about it and give praise and glory to the Lord for giving you the victory!
God bless.
