Grady Nutt tells a story about a new preacher calling upon a
deacon to pray, not knowing that this deacon never prays in
public. But the deacon stood up and said, "Shall we all bow our
heads and close our eyes," then he sneaked out and went home.
An email address book is a wonderful device. You can instantly
find the e-address of a friend and automatically insert it in an
email you plan to send. You don't have to page through a book to
find it, you don't have to type it, you just go "boing" and it
magically appears. Isn't email the nuts?
You and I both communicate with a lot more people because we
use email than we would if we used pen, ink, and paper. I think
email is one of the world's great inventions. Without it, there
wouldn't be an E-Cheer. I know you are worth more than a 37ยข
stamp, but you wouldn't be hearing from me without email.
I wonder, would we communicate more with God if we could
email Him? If we could put our thoughts on paper, would we be
more likely to really express our thoughts in prayer. Do we think
better on paper than we do in either silent or audible prayer? I
know that many churches would frown on someone reading a
public prayer rather than having spontaneous prayer, but that's
why so many folks just will not pray in public. -- they are not
adept at "thinking on their feet." Wouldn't a prayer that is
written out be more likely to be thoughtful? We have so many
hangups, don't we?
Can you imagine the size of God's address book -- He knows
every one of us by name -- don't worry, He won't accidentally
delete you. Luke 12:7 records this statement by Jesus (nlt), "And
the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid;
you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows."
To number your hairs, He has to know you -- count on it!

Personally I find writing out my prayers to be a great tool. It keeps my mind on track (or am I the only one with a wondering mind??) It is time consuming, but the prayers that I've taken time to write out and keep come to mean a lot to me, especially when they've been written as I was facing a difficult time. God is so faithful! He carries us through so much. I SHOULD talk to God as much as I email people! Thank you for the challenge!
