“Of course we do,” many will chorus. Think about it. If we really believe the Bible, wouldn’t or shouldn’t our actions bear out that belief? If we really love God we will obey Him, right?
Do we? Let’s look at the verse “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15. Believing that, wouldn’t we go around telling everyone of the awful fate that awaits them without Jesus as Saviour? It’s what Jesus told us to do in Mark 16:15.
Yet, generally speaking, it doesn’t happen. Most Christians seem unconcerned as to the eternal destiny of those around them. Do they really believe the Bible? Is it because the pastor – who won’t witness himself - hasn’t urged them to go tell the people?
If that is so, we all have an obligation to read and know what the Bible says, not rely on someone else to tell us what’s in it.
Taking this acting-on-belief theme a bit further, most of us know the second and greatest commandment. Jesus said it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Aren’t we then being hypocrites of the highest order in not spreading that message of salvation? We surely cannot love our neighbour if we won’t tell them the good news of the gospel which can save them. At least let's put a tract in their mailbox!
The truth is, so few are telling the gospel nowadays that many of the general public surely think those who do are weird.
Some say the reason it isn’t done is fear of man. That being so, it also means we doubt the Bible - which again is unbelief. Why is it so, when in many places in the Bible we read of God backing us in our ventures for Him? “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” “Fear not, for I am with you.” There are many more such promises.
The greatest antidote for fear is 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love and of a sound mind.” That might be a good topic every week for 52 weeks at the local church until it sinks in! “Oh, but they’d get sick of it.” They might, but they’d be bold and courageous!
The neighbourhood barber made an interesting comment: “People say they believe in heaven, but do everything they can to delay going there.” So do we really believe there is a heaven? Do we really believe the Bible full stop? It doesn’t appear so.
If you, dear reader, are a whole-hearted, God-fearing, full-on disciple for Jesus - obeying what He says - then praise God!
As for the rest of us, we have to begin taking God at His Word. First reading it, then believing it, then acting upon it.

Here is another call to battle! I seem to be hearing a lot of them lately! For those of us who are not natural communicators, posting a tract through the door has to be a useful option, as you say. The comment from the barber got me thinking - the unsaved DO fear death - as if subconsciously, they know hell awaits their unredeemed souls, but this is where we come in. Praying for opportunities to witness, however small, will bring a harvest. It`s promised! Blessings to you brother.
