Lord, Help Me Change
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! ” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
It always amazes me when I hear someone says that he’s a breathing example of a life that’s drastically changed by God. How I wish I can tell the world that!
But, I can't.
Although God gave me a new life in Him, I wonder why I still have the same old habits. I still eat junk foods, drink too much coffee, procrastinate, and still gets upset when people don’t live up to my expectations. As I was meditating on 2 Corinthians 5:17, it prompted me to do some soul searching.
I previously planned to use the title, “Lord, Change Me” in this devotional. Instead I chose a more fitting title, "Lord, Help Me Change." I learned that God will not just click His finger at me and say, “From now on, you are a brand new, perfect human being. You are now sinless.” The Holy Spirit will not just hand me a basket filled with the Fruit of the Spirit and say, “You can have them all- all nine of them!”
To be able to change, I need to do my part. I must hear what God is saying, and be obedient to His promptings.
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” (Galatians5:16 ).
He is my Guide. I need to follow His leading.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8)
He is my teacher. I need to have a teachable spirit.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)
My journey of faith has many crossroads (distractions and interruptions) but with God and His mercy, He forgives me of my sins and shows me the way back to Him.
My dear readers, from time to time, most of us make poor choices and may repeat the same mistakes. But the joy of Christian life is the manifestation of God’s grace. God is our Rock on which we can stand when our own knees are weak. Jesus Christ is always the God of new beginnings. The possibility of transformation is the essence of hope. He is our Hope.
Our Almighty God, thank You for loving me just the way I am. Forgive me for being unworthy of Your love. I believe that You love me so much but You don’t want me to stay this way. Help me to change into a person You wanted me to be. Help me to lean more on Your Word so I may not sin against you. Help me to trust You more with Your everlasting love. In Jesus most precious name, Amen.
