GOD GAVE US HIS BEST
“How GOD anointed JESUS of Nazareth with the HOLY GHOST and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).”
GOD HAS GIVEN US THE BEST GIFT OF ALL FOR ALL TIMES – SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. “For God SO LOVED the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).” He loved us in spite of our obvious shortfalls. “But God commendeth His LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).”
Father God, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit has done it all for us. We did not have to do anything to beget His love and receive His gift of salvation. God has sent His only begotten Son to redeem us from the curse of sin, which is death or eternal separation from God. “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that HE LOVED US, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10).” Jesus Christ became our cover for our jarring sins just as the Mercy Seat covers the Tablets of Stone. He has become our Ark of Salvation.
Having been saved, we are to go and sin no more. We are to move on through a process of sanctification, perfecting our faith in Christ, and to be holy, just as He is Holy. “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will: that we should be to the praise of His glory…(Eph. 1:11, 12).” Hallelujah!
God has given us His best. But, there are unseen splendour, extravagance or exquisiteness to this Gift which the casual observer may have missed out. Let’s consider God’s best in the following light:
1. THE PRECIOUS GIFT
What’s the most precious thing to you? Would you consider giving it away, even if it’s for a worthy cause? Abraham treasures his son of promise, Isaac. Jacob could not bear to part with Benjamin, his younger son by Rachel. Joseph, who had to sojourn in Egypt before Benjamin was born, longed to see his younger brother.
God the Father loves Jesus dearly and is pleased with Him for having chosen to fulfil His word to break the power of Satan over our lives. After Jesus was baptized, God spoke from heaven, “...saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Matt.3:17).” When Jesus was transfigured, God spoke again from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him (Matt. 17:5b).” God gave His precious because He loves us, too. And, His love for us is everlasting. We may fail Him from time to time. But, HIS LOVE NEVER FAILS. Hallelujah!
So, how precious are we to God? Each of us is worth more than the whole world (see Matt. 16:26). The good Shepherd will go in search of a lost sheep; every sheep matters to Him. He calls them by name. Make no mistake, God loves us as much as He loves Jesus. Jesus, Himself, said it (see John 17:23)!
As we grow in our walk with God, oughtn’t we give our precious to God, in return? Let’s begin by making a home for Him in our heart. By this, I mean every room in our hearts -- the good, the bad and the ugly. Let Him clean us up with His word (John 15:3; Eph. 5:23)and by the blood of Christ (1 John 1:7; Rev. 1:5),and sanctify us by His word (John 17:17) and His Spirit (2 Thess. 2:13; 1 Pet. 1:2). And, obey what God tells us to do. God deserves our best.
Make a change to enlarge the tent of our heart, stretch out the curtains, lengthen our cords and strengthen our stakes so that God will be BIG in us. Let Him set us ablaze with His radiance for His Glory. “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Hab. 2:4).” Amen.
2. THE INDESCRIBABLE GIFT
Usually, we describe some thing in terms what we already know of another thing or person. Sometimes we have to employ metaphors to describe them figuratively.
Also, we know that the more we know, the more we know that there is so much more that we do not. Perhaps, that was how Paul felt when he describes JESUS as God’s “indescribable gift!” (2 Cor. 9:15). For sure, Paul had known Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. Yet, he was in awe of Him.
Isaiah 9:6 gives JESUS the following name: WONDERFUL, COUNSELLOR, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, THE PRINCE OF PEACE. Jeremiah 23:6 speaks of Jesus as THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jesus said of Himself, I AM: THE BREAD OF LIFE; THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD; THE DOOR; THE GOOD SHEPHERD; THE RESURRECTION, AND THE LIFE; THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. “I am THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, the Beginning and the End,” says the LORD, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty (Rev. 1:8).” John speaks of Jesus as the WORD OF LIFE.
So many books, hymns and songs have been written of JESUS. There is much, much, more to come with every succeeding generation of believers. We are but at the tip of an ever expanding iceberg to sink our earthly wisdom. Let’s keep growing in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
3. THE ANOINTED GIFT
The Holy Spirit of God descended upon Jesus at His baptism. After that Jesus began to declare that He was anointed. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath ANOINTED me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord (Luke 4:18, 19).”
In his book, “A Fresh Anointing”, Pastor Kenneth E. Hagin outlined that Jesus was anointed to stand in every one of the fivefold ministry offices listed in Ephesians 4:11 -- Jesus the Apostle (Heb. 3:1), Prophet (Mark 6:4), Evangelist (Luke 4:18), Pastor (John 10:11), and Teacher (Matt. 7:29; Luke 4:15).
God’s Gift to us, JESUS, is anointed with the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT within Him at birth (Luke 1:35) and upon Him when the Holy Spirit descended.
Praise God for His anointing of Jesus. Through faith in Jesus, He has made us “Kings and Priests unto God” (Rev. 1:5). “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, JESUS CHRIST. (Rom. 5:17).”
What shall we say then, brethren and women of faith? If God has given us His best, oughtn’t we give Him our best, too? Let’s love Him wholeheartedly and love people fervently.
And, go forth to the world to make Christ Jesus known. For this cause, we can draw inspiration from the song, “Tell The World” by Hillsong Church, that:
ALL I WANT IN THIS LIFETIME IS YOU
ALL I WANT IN THIS WHOLE WORLD IS YOU
TELL THE WORLD THAT JESUS LIVES
TELL THE WORLD THAT (2X)
TELL THE WORLD THAT HE DIED FOR THEM
TELL THE WORLD THAT HE LIVES AGAIN.
C’MON, C’MON, WE’LL TELL THE WORLD ABOUT YOU
C’MON, C’MON, WE’LL TELL THE WORLD ABOUT YOU.
Finally, let’s live out our best for JESUS!
