God wants us to hear Him
If you have committed your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, you are His sheep and He is your Shepherd. And the Great Chief Shepherd said in the Gospel of John: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me”.(John10-:27)
“When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice”.(John10-:4)
“…If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. 2Chro15:2b
“The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” Psalm 14 :2, -53:2
“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. “Psalm 119:10-
“I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me”. Prov.8:17
"Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD : Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; Isa 51:1
If you seek me you will find me if you seek me with all your heart. Jer29:13
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. Isa40-:31
A man of God conducted an experiment arranging with a sheep farmer to put on his clothes and disguise as the shepherd. He was to call the sheep by their names as the shepherd normally did. Guess what? The sheep ran for their lives when they heard the strange voice. That is how it should be with Christians. God wants to speak to us on a regular basis. He is interested in all our affairs. There is nothing too small or too big to bring to Him.
Some examples of those who heard him
He spoke to Abraham: "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.
2 "I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."
Gen12: 1-3
On another occasion God told Abraham to take his son Isaac and go and sacrifice him in a place He will show him. Gen 22
God did not tell him exactly where and why but Abraham obeyed immediately. He went for three day before he saw the place.
God will not give us the details we often want before we venture out. "The just shall live by faith." (Rom 1:17, Gal3:11 Heb10:38) "He who come to God must believe that He exist and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."Heb11:6 "We walk by faith and not by sight." (2Cor 5:7)_
He spoke to Jehosephat: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. 2Chro.20-:15
He Spoke to the disciples: In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts13:1-2
He spoke to David David Anointed King Over Judah ] In the course of time, David inquired of the LORD. "Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?" he asked. The LORD said, "Go up." David asked, "Where shall I go?" "To Hebron," the LORD answered.” 2Sam 2:1 9
On another occasion And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines. 2Sam5:23,24
Here we see that God does not always say ‘Yes.’ He can say, 'No', and we must be flexible and be prepared for it. He will give strategy for overcoming our enemies or challenges.
Let us pray:
May you hear from your shepherd and walk in what you hear and enter your promised land. May you not follow the voice of the stranger, the hired man, come to kill and destroy. May you trust the Lord in all your ways, leaning not in your own understanding but acknowledging Him in all your way so that He may direct your path. May the Lord frustrate the counsel of every Ahitophel in your life but grant you open heaven to hear the Counsellor - the Holy Spirit, your Guide, Standby, Strengthner, Helper, Teacher and Comforter.
