Marriage
I awoke this morning to sounds floating in the air, some clamoring for notice, some barely there; the muted sound of cars going by on the road outside, then a sleepy bird chirping, practicing the song he would soon share.
And I thought how the gift of sound enriches my day, adding depth to every moment as I work and play.
I began to think of the sounds I like most of all, and as I thought, I was amazed that each one by itself was so small.
Each one adds its bit to the tapestry of my day that I can share, most in the
background, not noticed unless they aren't there.
The tap dance of the dog's nails across the wood floor, tell me the dog heard me move, and now she is also up, the snap of the lock as I open the door to let her out, the warmth of the sound of coffee filling my cup.
Outside the sound of traffic busily rushes by, the tires hissing, horns beeping to each other, 'get out of my way'; turning the corner, leaving the cars behind, now I hear sounds with quieter things to say.
The birds are all warming up for the morning's symphony of sound, the wind applauds through the trees as leaves fall to the ground.
A muted dog barks from a backyard as I pass by, a squirrel runs and hides, his quick steps as quiet as a baby's sigh.
The rustling of the leaves that line the street, the nuts and sticks snapping and crunching under my feet; the creak of tree branches moving in the breeze, the leaves whispering laughter accompanies me.
The sun peeps out from behind a cloud, almost like the door I hear opening up in the sky, and in this golden light I feel Jesus is walking with me so close by.
He's telling me all this beauty He created for me, His love so great it spilled over in all the wonders around me I see.
But of all the sounds that give delight and joy to my day, the most wonderful sound of all is your voice, saying the words I longed to hear, "I love you" so softly said into my ear.
The words and the meaning sink deep into my heart, and I know that they hold us together, never to part.
Of all the wonders God gives me each day brand new, the best one of all is the gift I have in you!
