The Cross: The Redeeming Power Of God
By
Calvin J. Moss
First Corinthians 1:18 says for the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. The thought that I leave with you is the cross is the power of God.
The world is full of highly intellectual people who do not believe that the bible is necessary to a successful life. They believe that they are very smart and do not need God. You know this by looking at some of the advancements etc. I believe that a few of these advancements are a result of mans separation from God and as you know, either you are with God or the devil. Man is really not independent as he thinks but rather dependent or God even though he feels otherwise. For example, the air that you inhale or exhale, does it belong to you or did you create it? The world believes that the bible is foolishness but what they hold highly is abomination to God.
Verses 25-29 of first Corinthians mentions: because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling brethren how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world and things which are despised, hath God chosen yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence.
The devil has a hold on the world that is why they perish and they do not even know it. If the devil was really smart, he never would have crucified Jesus at the cross because now through Jesus Christ we live and do not have to die in our sins. The cross is to them that perish but it is the power of God unto us to the saving of the soul. The enemy has trained the world to love unrighteousness and hate righteousness. God simply used a five-letter word to destroy the works of the adversary: the blood. I read in the Old Testament that the life of the flesh is in the blood. What the devil meant for harm God used for good. In fact, that statement can be applied to our lives: Whatever the devil means for our harm God uses for our good.
The world operates in natural or sense knowledge instead of Spiritual knowledge that is why they cannot understand the problems that are going on in the world. Spiritual knowledge tells us that these are the beginning of sorrows, the end is near and these things must come to pass. Jesus also said that my words are Spirit and they are life. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not logical. The world says it is foolishness for a man to walk on water. It is foolishness that a man can feed five thousand people with two fishes and loaves bread. It is foolishness for people to get healed by the laying on of the hands. Nor is it common for a man to say Lazarus come forth! This is what much of the world calls foolishness because it is not understood with human intelligence. So the preaching of the cross is to them that perish is foolishness but to us who are saved it is the power of God. Amen.
