How Full Of A Life Are You Living This Day?

How full of a life are you living this day? Are you enjoying each and every day of your life or are you trying to find yourself, merely existing, a sourpuss or an irritant to just about everyone around you? Are you purchasing a lottery ticket hoping it will be a winner and change your life forever? Maybe you believe a socialistic style of government will come forward to equalize what you view as an unfair and unequal socio-economic system for your personal betterment. To these, I respond, “This IS the day which the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalm 118:24).
“Yeah, right! Sure! That’s easy for you to proclaim, Pete!” I can just hear naysayers reply. “I’ve got parents who don’t care what I do, where I go or nothin’” “I’ve got this boyfriend and alls he does is beat the crud out of me and you want me to rejoice?” “I’ve gone a whole year without a job and you want me to rejoice?” I recognize and empathize with those who suffer with their problems and recognize how difficult they are to overcome. But the raw truth is every person alive lives with some elements of discord, hurt, disharmony, pain and suffering. The difference between people is some choose to cope with adversity, some do not know how to cope with adversity and some choose NOT to cope with adversity either because they gain personal or group sympathy and maybe a few or continuous handouts! Adversities are either saddled and ridden until they are tamed or they saddle us. Some people have a knack for living and living well WITHOUT things, power and hedonistic satisfiers. They find joy even when discomforted or seemingly defeated. How?
Their secret, I have observed, is that they are very creative, have fertile imaginations and live one day at a time. When it seems that a problem has knocked them down, they refuse to stay down. “Just you wait,” these people say, “Yeah, I lost my leg in Iraq but I’m still going to run in the Boston Marathon when the application period arrives.” Or “I’m going to work three jobs to care for my wife and three children so that I can send these children to that Christian school!” In other words, they refuse to give up or give in. These are the people who know “the abundant life” Christ promised to all who believe IN Him.
The 20th century American essayist, George Bernard Shaw was reported to have stated that the words on the tombstone of many, many people should read: “Died at 30, buried at 60.” Don’t be one of them! Live each and every day of your life on this earth in the spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ in peace and in joy! AMEN!
