Marriage
As I look outside at the foundation being built on the addition that will be added to our house, I watched how it was made and it reminded me so of our love each step of the way.
First the footings were dug, and filled with cement to make a foundation strong and secure; and sunk into the cement were long metal clips, as extra insurance, just to be sure.
Upon this solid base, the foundation blocks were laid, each surrounded by mortar to hold it in place, the mortar completely surrounded each block, filling up every little space.
Each one was leveled and tapped on each end, until it was set in place just right, and into each one went more mortar and an anchor, to connect the rows, holding them together, even though it was out of sight.
Then all that was needed was time to dry, to cure and become not many, but one - a strong level place upon which to build new walls, and create the beautiful addition that was to come.
When the base of the floor is put into place, those long metal clips will be wrapped around - to make sure that the two will always remain as one, held securely all along the base.
I think of Jesus' Word as that footing poured out for our love, the strong and secure base upon which to build, and the long metal clips are the length and breadth of His love, stretching out from that base to all that's above.
The blocks laid in place are each day that we live, placed securely on the solid foundation below, and prayer and joy and peace are the mortar all around, surrounding us and enabling us to grow.
And into each day we drop anchors deep inside to keep us together no matter what it is that we do, for these anchors are the love that is filling us up within, and will hold us together no matter what we go through.
And on top of these foundation blocks is our life being built anew, held securely to the foundation below by the long clips of God's love for me and you.
Each day we build a little more to our house, and its beauty is revealed bit by bit, but the living and the building is what gives so much joy, knowing that God made the plans and when finished, it will fit.
So I thank Him each day for this building project we have, for the happiness we have putting each block in place, and for each way that I can find to tell you of my love, and see it mirrored in you when I look at your face.
