“Eat The Flesh, Drink The Blood”
By
Calvin J. Moss
John 6:53-56 says: Then Jesus said unto them verily, verily I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the son of man and drinketh my blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood dwelleth in me and I in him.
Based on these scriptures, if you want to live my thought is simply eat the flesh, drink the blood. The Jews were talking to Jesus about how Moses fed their fathers bread (manna) from heaven. But Jesus said that “Moses did not give you the bread from heaven but the father gives you the true from heaven” (John 6:32). Then Jesus says for the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven and giveth life unto the world (v.33). Then said they unto him Lord give us this bread and Jesus said unto them, “ I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst”.
As I write this, I think about all the men and women who hunger and thirst daily. I am not talking about physical food but the spiritual food, the flesh and the blood. Although physical food is good for the body, spiritual food is good for the spirit. All over the world, you will find people with different beliefs about how one gets to heaven. We who are in Christ know that one must partake of the flesh and the blood meaning that man must believe that Jesus is the true bread from heaven sent from God to save man from the wrath that is to come.
The Jews complained and murmured because Jesus said he was the true bread from heaven because he was the son of Joseph. They thought he was only a man. The Jews did not know that Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit, which means he came from God. In verse 48-49 Jesus clearly states: “I am the bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna and are dead”. Verse 50 says: “This is the bread which cometh down from heaven that a man may eat thereof and not die. Jesus said “except ye eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, ye have no life in you”. So we know that with physical food only, man will perisheth. With spiritual food man liveth and we know that Jesus’ flesh is life indeed.
John 3:18 says: “he that believeth on him in not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God”. Jesus Christ is the substance of life. Amen.
