As I heard the rich baritone voice ring out, a sudden thought dawned on me. "I wonder what King David's voice sounded like when he was singing praises unto God?" I pondered David singing,
"The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
He leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk through the dark valley of death,
I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever."
(Ps. 23 NLB)
What wonderful words he was inspired to write. He wrote wonderful word pictures describing God's protection and blessings. He was definitely inspired by the Spirit of God and expressed himself through music. His heart must have been overflowing as he poured his feelings out through song. I was wondering if his voice sounded like Pavarotti or some other great opera singer, or if he crooned like Sinatra.
My imaginings stirred, I thought about what Jesus' singing voice would be like. It would have to be a rich voice, able to stir your soul with emotion and love as he sings with joy over his beloved. Zephaniah 3:17 says: "… for the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will exult over you by singing a happy song." (NLB). The King James version says, "…he will joy over you with singing."
How exciting it will be - I can imagine it now - to hear the King of Kings and Lord of Lords exulting in song over ME!? His love for me is that personal? Think of it! The creator of this universe died for you and me personally!! And he will personally exult over you and me with singing. It's breathtaking!
