The Lord reminded me this morning of a very important ingredient to forgiveness. First, we must ask for forgiveness from Him, and those we have wronged if we are able. Then we forgive those who have wounded us, but there is one step further which many do not heed. It may be that they are not aware, but it is the pivotal point of restoration from the damage done. This restoration is a God-kind of supernatural restitution.
The Lord revealed the “secret” to Job and then our Precious Savior Jesus added another level in the New Covenant.
After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. (Job 42:10)
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven... (Matthew 5:43-45)
Praying for our friends and enemies who have hurt us is more for us than for them. It is the conduit for receiving restoration, reimbursement and restitution. Yes, we can feel entitled not to, but the difference is, do we want to continue in poverty, or do we want to break that cycle and move on to our place of abundance? Abundance is not only in reference to material wealth. It encompasses every area of our lives, spirit, soul, which is our mind, will, emotions and intellect, and our physical bodies.
Job received twice as much back from God after he prayed for his “frienemies.” The key is that Job was looking unto God for his restoration and not his friends. We will keep our eyes on the Lord.
I write this prayer today.
Heavenly Father,
I forgive those who have hurt me,
I truly from within my heart do,
Because I want to forgive deeply,
As You have forgiven me too.
I choose this day not to hold onto,
Any grievance, wound or sorrow,
That anyone has caused me,
From this day and into my tomorrow.
I crave Your restoration,
To my rightful place,
To live in Your abundance,
Especially, in Your amazing Grace.
Thank you for forgiving me,
Of all my wretched sin,
For enabling me to live each day,
Refreshed, renewed in You again and again.
I now release those who have hurt me,
Into Your hands these I commit and pray,
That You will too forgive them,
So that one day they may believe and say,
How wonderful You are,
And gracious You will forever be,
Because You died in their place,
The same as You did for me.
Thank you for making us born again,
Fresh and behold each day anew,
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for all You did on the Cross,
And for all You continue to do.
Amen!
