God’s Rest for His People
John 15:4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” NKJV
Has a word so impacted you that you remember it fifty years later? Some words paint a clear picture. Zerrissenheit is one of those words. It means torn to pieces hood.
It means being pulled in so many directions that you feel like you might just be torn apart. Your body might protest by heart palpitations, tremors, headaches, etc.
In trying to do everything in our own strength, we can fall apart or strike out in frustration and anger. Our human resources are very limited, but God’s resources are limitless. What can we do to access his resources?
Jesus said, I am the vine, you are the branches.” John 15:5 NKJV Does the branch struggle to grow, bear fruit, or be strong enough to withstand the elements of weather? No, the branch draws from the vine. Cut that branch off the vine and it withers and dies. Useless.
We try to do so much on our own when all he wants of us is to abide in him throughout our day. Stay hidden in him. Rest in him. Allow him to live through you. His resources are unlimited. Unlimited patience, love, endurance, etc.
Heavenly Father, you want us to stay attached to the vine, your son. Jesus has all we need for life. All. May we give him freedom to live through us.
I have two grown sons and two grandchildren. A transplant from Washington, I live in southeastern Nebraska and write to encourage believers to find their rest in God as described in Hebrews 4:9-10. NKJV
