“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-19 NIV
Many may have thought that, with Jesus, the law and the prophets were to be replaced by Him and His teachings. But, Jesus tells us that this is not so. The law and the prophets came to us in the Old Testament, part of the Holy Bible, the word of God. Why would God have given a message in many writings, to have it be replaced by Christ? Christ is the enhancement, and more, the fulfillment of all which is proclaimed in the Old Testament.
Christ did much in His ministry that all the prophecies about Him from the Old Testament might be fulfilled. Nothing of the law or the prophets was to pass away without the fulfillment of every one of them through Christ. This had to be as the Bible is all truth. It is the word of God, given to man to write, that all might read and believe.
Christ truly is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets. Give thanks to Him that He fulfilled all that God declares.
