SOUND OF THE TRUMPET
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: Strange sounds are being heard all around the world. Some have described it as the sound of trumpets. The Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah began Sept. 21 with the sound of the Shofar. A make shift rams horn having a historical significance for over 6,000 years. The blowing of the Shofar reminds us that when the Messiah comes a great sound will emanate throughout the world. A cows horn could not be used as it reminded the Jews of the golden idol that the Israelites erected while Moses was atop Mount Sinai. A ram’s horn is reminiscent of the time of Abraham and Isaac when Isaac was spared by a ram caught in the bushes who served as a substitute sacrifice. Were reminded of the Lamb of God (Jesus) who was the sacrifice for all sin that had entered the world through Adam and Eve’s disobedience.
My brother Dan and two friends blew the Shofar at Sundown Sept 20 overlooking the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington. Sundown began the next day on the 21st and the beginning of the feast of the trumpets, Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish New Year. Dan and his friends blew their Shofars 100 times on a hillside overlooking the dam and nearby towns heralding in the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah is also known as the Day of Trumpets. It begins a 10-day period leading up to the holiest day on the Jewish calendar—Yom Kippur or the day of atonement. It’s a time of soul searching and self-examination. A time which ends on the 31st, enough time to make amends with all those they have wronged and to ask forgiveness for any broken vows they might have made. The primary theme of Rosh Hashanah is one of repentance, something this nation of people should embrace.
Time is short. What would you do if you had 10 days to get right with the Lord? He promised to come back and take all born-again believers out of this world before the seven-year tribulation begins. We could very well be that generation that will see the culmination of the end of grace. Are you ready to meet the Lord in the air (rapture)?
Prayer: Father God, I want to be ready to meet you face to face when the trumpet sound is heard in the sky. Reveal to me anything in my life that displeases you and needs to change so that I may hear those precious words from your lips “well done my good and faithful servant.” Amen
Verse: I Thess. 4:16-18 “ For the Lord Himself will descend from the heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
