OIL IN MY LAMP
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: Most of us will remember the little song we sang in Sunday school called “Give me oil in my lamp”. The lyrics described olive oil that was used in lamps to light our way at night. It also mentioned peace, love, joy and praise as we sang hosanna to the Servant King. The use of olive oil was not only for lamps in the past but was part of the grain offerings and sanctification of priests and all the furnishings in the tabernacle. It was also used to anoint Kings and to commission prophets while others used it for cooking like we do today to maintain a healthy living.
Some time ago I did a word study on Oil and found it to be symbolic of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus parable of the ten virgins in a wedding party waiting for the bridegroom (Jesus) to appear only five were prepared with enough oil for their lamps. Those who were not, missed out. They could not be counted in the wedding party. This is an illustration of Jesus return for those who have invited him (the Holy Spirit) into their lives and will be taken out in the rapture. Living in a world that is ready to implode born again Christians are not under the wrath (judgment) of God before the seven-year tribulation. World wide events are rapidly falling into place and time is short. Do you have enough oil (Jesus) in your lamp as we await the arrival of the bridegroom? Maranatha (even so Lord come soon).
Prayer: Father God, I’m prepared with enough oil (Holy Spirit) in my lamp to greet the bridegroom in the sky. I now possess him in Spirit but will see him in His glorified body as my Savior and King. Reveal yourself to those who have yet to make that decision to invite you into their life so they too can be a part of the wedding party. Amen
Verse: John 3:3-7 “Jesus replied, “With all the earnestness I possess I tell you this: Unless you are born again, you can never get into the Kingdom of God.” “Born again!” exclaimed Nicodemus. “what do you mean? How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “What I am telling you earnestly is this: Unless one is born of water (natural birth) and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Men can only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven, so don’t be surprised at my statement that you must be born again!”
