“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.” (Proverbs 18:10 HCSB) “Protect me as you would your very own eyes; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” (Psalm 17:8 CEV) “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 TEV)
The perfect God promises us in Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” (NRSV)
Security or protection is one of the vital needs of mankind. Imagine a world or situation in which there is no safety at all. God who understands everything also knows our needs more than we do. I know most of you will agree with me in this and even comment that this is not a new information for you. But let me ask, do you believe in God’s care personally? When you are going through difficult times do you spend time in prayer so that God will deliver you? Christian faith is a personal experience. Many who claim to be believers are actually unbelievers when it comes to them personally. It is because of this problem that such people fail to live the victorious Christian life.
Protection from dangers is really very important. Otherwise anything can happen. But what if God allows us to walk through dangerous circumstances? Will He expect us to courageously overcome it by our own strength? Or will He strengthen us, empower us, encourage us and fight the battle for us? And if God has promised us to fight our battles, why fear? There is no room for fear in faith. If you fear you can’t have faith and if you believe you can’t have fear. God has a special intention about you, so He honors you highly. God has a special place for you in His heart, how can He ever leave you unprotected and alone?
God has promised us to keep us safe and secure in His arms and under His wings. The most effective way to be conversant with the essential matters of life is to start our day by spending a few minutes or more in the presence of the Lord. When we ask the guidance of the Lord, He will teach us what is truly important and relevant on the particular occasion and moment. Thus, as many of us have heard, the most secure place for man is to live in the center of God’s will. When we understand God’s will as He speaks to us through the Bible and apply or practice that message in our personal endeavors, we are really safe.
I know some of you may have some doubts while reading this message. “Do not believers and true Christians die in accidents? Do not children of God go through disease and infirmities? Are not many missionaries being tortured? What about the Christian kids who are unable to go to school because their parents have no means of livelihood?” Well, the Bible has the answer to every question.
At first instance we feel that God’s protection is to keep us away from death, disease and destruction. Take the life of Abel in the Old Testament. He was a victim of his elder brother’s envy who murdered him, his very own blood. Think about Joseph in the book of Genesis. He was imprisoned without any reason. Problems are real to all of us, but do you know the biblical truth about problems? “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NKJV) “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 ESV) “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” (Psalm 34:19 NIV) May be our dear ones have left us and we deeply weep for them. But we can be sure that they are enjoying the beauty of Jesus in heaven. May be some of you are in the hospital undergoing treatment. But you can be sure that Jesus has your health under His control. You need not worry over anything. God is the Boss! Every problem is under His feet, allow Him to take charge of every situation in your life. It is only when we leave the impossible situations in God’s hands that we can know and experience His protection personally.
Finally we can be sure that no matter what situations we are going through right now, we have an eternal abode in heaven. It is those who have this living hope in Christ who are rejoicing in Him even amidst problems and afflictions. People with the attitude opposite to gratitude can never find this lasting joy. But we know Christ, don’t we? And if we know Him, we also know that He will fulfill His prophetical promise of coming back and taking us to heaven.
Let me once again tell you. This spiritual message is not intended to teach you that you will have no problems at all. But the message is that you are a victor in the name and in the blood of Christ. You can be the happiest person even when you are in the most tragic situation. The choice is yours.
