…, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, …….., Genesis 24:3 NASB
I had a little conversation with myself “Ok so Abraham doesn’t mind burying his dead in the land of Canaan and would pay a price to have that land. But would not have it if his son marries from the land?” The man had his priorities right. Abraham wasn’t going to sit back and watch his son drawn away from God by marrying someone from the land or more importantly, have one of the greatest and amazing promises made by God for his son ruined or partially fulfilled. God meant that much and more to him. The dead remained the dead and good enough for their land. But with life comes living and living comes purpose, and purpose means choices and decisions and with that comes a benchmark and a leader to guide, who is God. We live in the world, like Abraham lived in Canaan but we have not yet understood what it means to have life and be living it. Instead of dying to it, and shedding off everything in our lives that leads to death on it, we dwell on it and enjoy the land while we die to a much more heavenly life. Now how you chose to live your life is your choice and the rewards and consequences are not yours to determine. You can choose to dwell on it or live a life on it. A life not lived for God was never living, but just dwelling on earth. Let’s pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit in Jesus name, Amen.
