I know because of my knowledge of the scriptures the Lord only intends my life to bless.
Yet, and it could be for multiple reasons he has appointed at this time for me a thorn in my flesh.
There is nothing pleasant about the thorn in itself, even though it does in nature protect a beautiful rose.
While strolling through the garden of life I would pick flowers for myself and my family, never a thorn would I have chose.
But the Lord declares that his ways are high above my ways, and his thoughts are above my thoughts.
So I must submit to this thorn, unpleasant though it be, because by him my soul has been bought.
A thorn is very hard, it is very sharp, it can penetrate, and puncture leaving wounds with pain that last, on, and on.
The Lord is patient the thorn is applied as needs be according to our needs, but will not be removed until its work is done.
I have like the Apostle Paul asked for the removal of the thorn I think maybe we can do this some other way.
The Lord is very tender and doesn’t mind me asking for it to be removed, but it was not to be removed today.
Sometimes the thorn hurts so bad, there is no escape though all you can do is cast your eyes on the Lord and pray.
It is in these infinitesimal points in time that I can be assured the Master Potter must be grinding on his clay.
When my thinking is what it should be I don’t understand why the thorn isn’t driven in much deeper than it is.
It is then that I realize just how merciful my Lord is and the patience that he has to work with someone like this.
Even when or if this thorn is ever removed from me there will be lasting repercussions, at the very least an ugly scar.
But I will know more about my Master, I will be closer to him, I might stray but it won’t be very far.
I read where Paul besought the Lord thrice for the removal of his thorn the Lord only replied that sufficient was his grace.
So Paul continued to live with the problem given to him by the Lord, and his example is worthy to be embraced.
I do pray that the Lord one day removes this thorn and mends the breach, for pain is such an unusual, yet effective teacher.
But then again, I guess the same can be said about me by the Lord, I have to do this because he is such an unusual creature.
