“Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? But now as for what is inside you—be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you.” Luke 11:39-41 NIV
God created us totally, inside and out. Are we foolish enough to think we can hide what is on our inside from God? We cannot clean the inside of ourselves. We need Christ and the indwelling Spirit of Truth to clean us inside. We must though make the choice to allow ourselves to be cleaned. This is what the heavenly Father wishes for us to do.
Christ knew what he was doing when He said to the Pharisees to be generous to the poor and all would be clean for them. Christ knows that for one to be generous to the poor that they must step outside of themselves. They must care more about others and their well-being than about themselves. The Pharisees were not interested in the poor. They were interested in their own desires.
To be a follower of Jesus Christ is truly not a life of ease. Life never was meant to be easy. Life is temporary. It is a trial period for each of us. It is a time through our actions and words to show the type of individual we are truly. Our lives are written in the book of life. We will have a day of accounting before the Lord.
May you allow Jesus Christ to clear the inside of your cup.
