THE CHRIST CHILD IS BORN
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
That night in the Bethlehem stable a chill was in the air. The only source of heat came from the livestock and the glowing flicker from an oil lamp. Young Mary lay on her straw bed and held the newborn infant gentle to her heart. The Christ child was born of a virgin. Mary thought about the miraculous birth that just happened when time itself would begin again. The infant she held came with a mission.
In the fields outside of Bethlehem shepherds were caring for the sacrificial sheep that would be offered in the temple rituals when their silence was broken by an angelic host who pronounced the arrival of royalty, the future King of the world. They rushed to the stable to pay homage and worship the Christ child who prophetically became the lamb of God, the sinless one time sacrifice that would break the curse of separation and death that had come upon the world through our first parents disobedience.
The great "I AM" used the humblest of means to enter into the mainstream of humanity and provide the way out of this bondage and curse. His name is "Jesus", Savior and coming King who took all the sins of mankind upon himself, paid the price on the cross and defeated death through his resurrection and new immortal body. The gift he offers all who believe in who he is and what he has done is priceless. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that who ever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Out of all the spiritual leaders that has ever lived or living today none has offered this gift found only in Jesus of forgiveness, restitution and eternal life. Jesus is the only way back to the Father and the reason for the season.
Note of interest: As a once a year decoration the nativity is placed on the mantel of homes and churches all over the world then placed in storage after the holiday is over. Sad to say that for many that is the end of their spiritual contribution for the year. There seems to be a difference of opinion among biblical scholars as to whether the nativity is the correct depiction of the three wise men's journey to Bethlehem. Some say Jesus was two years of age when the wise men arrived in Jerusalem and were not present at the time of birth. I did some research from the Aramaic (language of Jesus time) translation and discovered that the wise men referred to Jesus as an infant when they made their appearance at Jesus birth. When Herod inquired of them the star that they followed might have appeared two years prior to their journey and that was what was relayed to Herod. Under the impression that Jesus would be two years of age he ordered all first born sons two years and under to be killed causing Joseph and Mary to flee to Egypt shortly after his birth. When they settled in the city of Nazareth the Aramaic version refers to Jesus as a boy which would make him around two years of age. I'm inclined to believe the depiction of the three wise men in the nativity is correct. They brought with them the symbolic gifts of Frankincense (deity),myrrh (embalming oil) and gold (kingship and the crucial finances Mary and Joseph needed for the flight into Egypt.)
This Christmas take a deeper look into the depth of the nativity message : God, in the flesh, offering the priceless gift of salvation to all who by repentance and faith believe in the finished work of Jesus.
Prayer: Father God, illuminate my mind to understand how profound that message is in the life of Jesus. In Him is found forgiveness, reconciliation and eternal life, the gift that is the answer to two of the most important question we will ever ask. Who are we (a child of God through the new birth) and where are we going ( home in heaven). Amen
Verse: I Cor. 1: 26-29 “ Notice among yourself, dear brothers that few of you who follow Christ have big names or power or wealth. Instead God has deliberately chosen to use ideas the world considers foolish and of little worth in order to shame those people considered by the world as wise and great. He has chosen a plan despised by the world, counted as nothing at all, and used it to bring down to nothing those the world considers great, so that no one anywhere can ever brag in the presence of God. “
