Short Stories
The King's daughter turned her head upward, allowing the rain to beat down on her face and mingle with fresh tears, as her heart sobbed.
“How can you look at me? What is this love you have for me?" She cried out.
"Have you not given up yet?"
“Are there not more precious and goodly pearls than I?"
Slowly she began to walk back home. She continued to muse in her mind thoughts that plagued yet encouraged her. She prayed, "There is no value in me."
“The value is alone in the price you have paid for me."
"Alone in the change you have wrought in me, alone in what you fill me with- You.”
"I am poor and needy today, I have walked the streets of the city and have become as one with no name."
As she returned to the King’s dwelling, the palace guards would have arrested and beat her, except for the royal mark that distinguished her as their Master's daughter.
She came in the door and stumbled not knowing where to go. "I have become unfamiliar with the rooms in my Father’s house." Her voice whispered hoarsely. She heard Judgment approaching and became afraid.
“Fear is a stranger here," he said and commanded, "You must leave!”
But Mercy appeared and led her away to a private chamber in the King’s house.
She and her twin sister Grace removed the rags and washed the dust of the city from off this beloved one while Mercy spoke comfortably to her saying, “We were always with you, but you did not know it. You were not looking our way.”
“Where is my Abba?” She cried. “Can I not see Him?’
A pitying eye met her gaze; “Come, come through His house, we will search for Him.” They said.
As she moved from room to room, she saw and touched each detail that bore His touch, and marveled that nothing was lacking.
Every corner and space contained Him in some way. Gold, silver and precious stone where found in every place. If she lingered in a particular area, when she left there, she found that she carried some of its glory upon her. However it was not heavy to bear.
His voice could be heard throughout and the melody of His Living Word filled the air- so that it left her breathless and rejoicing.
On every wall was a mirror. It was the Eye of her Abba. She stood uncertainly for a moment, but Grace entreated her to turn to the mirror. How astonished she was at the beauty she beheld there.
“This is the Bride of your Father’s Son,” smiled Grace.
Then Mercy added, “It is you." "This is who you are because of Him.”
She held her breath and falling to her knees she wept, overcome by the love of her Father and His Son.
When she stood again something had changed. The pool of her tears had collected more glory and the glory clung to her; His Glory.
But more peculiar than this- each room now had a door she had not seen before, and a window beside it.
Approaching the glass porthole she saw someone on the inside of the sill and still another on the outside. “Have you seen your Father?” The one asked.
“Yes, I have seen Him." she replied, “He is with me now." “He breathes upon me and I am alive."
She then gazed towards the window. "I am compelled to look out thru this glass” she said.
“Look then,” said he upon the windowsill.
She whispered to Grace, “Tell me, who are they that cling to the portholes?”
“This is the Compassion of your Father and on the other side is Hope"
Then Grace added, " Each glass is a reflection."
"As long as you see others, with this- your Father’s Eye, compassion will be there and those who find you will find hope.”
She drew nearer and looked out. At first she was confused. All she saw was the dreadful world she had just come out from. It was dirty and filled with shadows. There was no beauty and only enemies to her joy! Selfish, cruel and dark, no life no light!
Then one dirty, lone, ugly figure drew close to the window. O how she wanted to turn and run-but compassion held her there.
"What do want me to see here?" she questioned. However even as she asked she saw it. A faint light of a jewel beating in the chest of that stranger, and hope reflected in the eyes. Her heart melted.
Then someone came roughly pulling the stranger out of view! Oh precious soul!
She ran to the door, Mercy had already gone before her and Grace ushered her out as Compassion guided her steps to find that which was lost.
